I had ITV on earlier and it just cut out... looks like it's happened all over the country too, judging by the threads on DigitalSpy. Some people are getting ITVs 2 / 3 / 4 fine whereas they're not working for others... likewise some are getting ITV 1 fine but most (including me) are just getting the picture with a continuous "static" noise.

I'd imagine someone somewhere is tearing their hair out trying to fix it... and not making a very good job of it.

Probably. The whole TV system is so stupidly complicated these days with Freeview, FreeSat, fee-paying satellite, cable, terrestrial and all sorts.

The guide says at the very earliest some parts of the country get affected this Autumn...so either they're experimenting in some way or another, or they got impatient!

Nevertheless, it's bound to kick up a fuss and end up on the papers tomorrow!

Apparently it's due to a power cut or something similar affecting their systems in London, and it's caused problems on ITVs 1, 2, 3 and 4... on terrestrial and digital.

Good, lets hope it never comes back on. Personally, I blame it all on Fern Brittans gastric band.

Yes, the rest of the ITV Border region (Cumbria, the Isle of Man and Southern Scotland) will have its analogue signals switched off this autumn.

The town of Whitehaven on the Cumbrian coast had its analogue signals turned off last autumn and Ferryside on the Carmarthenshire coast in West Wales went digital only in March 2005.
