My dad said to me once he was cleared he'd go the same way because he wasn't coping well at all. But for it to have transpired the way it did was horrible.

He was definitely a great guy - it still seems like yesterday he was donning the plastic blonde wig for Scratchy & Co. :(

SMart (and SMarteenies) was axed just after he was charged.

Whether or not it returns is up to the producers now, I guess.

Yes, very sad news.

Big-Davey, I very much doubt that Smart will be brought back although it would be a tribute to Mark if it were to return just like Countdown when Richard Whiteley had died.

It is sad news, I remember him well, as I used to watch the SMart programmes when I was younger.

he wasnt charged only questioned and he quit SMart as he couldnt cope with work after his sad loss. i think he was the producer too. it was definately his show and he run it.

I had the pleasure of meeting mark last year when he came to hull art gallery. he was a lovely guy and spent hours with kids signing autographs and having his photo taken,
such a sad loss

R.I.P Mark :(

I don't think SMart's been axed, didn't he quit the next series before they went into production? :?

It's a shame though, RIP.

Ya know I liked him and I was hoping they would find him alive and the fact that he took his life because he was heartbroken is just so sad but in no way is it a tragedy.

Marks fiance died on a Cocaine binge, I'm sorry but taking drugs is a huge risk, it's like playing Russian Roulette with your life, I am struggling with the tragedy theories.

I also hate hate hate people who commit suicide as it's the most selfish act possible but I dunno what it is about this story, i feel sad for him as he obviously realised life without his soul mate wasnt worth living.

Really sad news, I saw him in Battersea Park in 1997 signing autographs for a huge crowd of kids. I was too shy to get one, really wish I had now.

Always used to love watching him on SMart (way back in the days when Zoe Ball and Josie D'arby presented it), Scratchy and Co, even Name That Toon, he really was the type of person you'd think would be the *least* likely to kill himself. Such a shame.

It's a shame. I didn't know him personally but from watching him on SMart he seemed like the sort of person who was always happy, always smiling, and as Billy already mentioned, he seemed like the last person you'd think would take their life.

It's hard to believe that anyone can go from leading a normal life to then have thier life turned upside down in a short space of time and to break down and lose themselves mentally and emotionally.

It's a bit of an eye-opener really and makes you think twice about how sudden your life can change.

It said he was offered help, but he declined it. I think one of the hardest things you can do is accept that you're not well or you've got a problem (mentally and emotionally). The incident is very sad, and is shows how attached people can become to each other. I remember him from the kid's programmes, because he was my favourite when I was younger.
