A very good start to the grand finale tonight. An interesting idea that all those races team up against The Doctor to trap him and save the universe. Amy is shot by the Auton of her boyfriend despite the fact he was able to remember her. And River Song is trapped in an about to explode TARDIS. Hurry up next week's finale. :smt023

The amazing thing is albeit a sneak peek online, there's no hints about next week's finale! What an amazing idea too, we all knew something was going to involve Amy and her imagination/childhood so possibly (bearing in mind I've not yet seen the sneak peek and have no intention of doing so) it all changes now she's seemingly dead...all I'm going to say is the exact thing Wob said on Facebook; if Moffatt can get both the Doctor and Amy out of this hole, he's right up there with Russell T Davies and will surely continue the clean sweep of television awards the show has won since its return!

Can.Not.Wait!

And so the finale arrived. And what a massive success it was from my point of view. The idea of The Doctor setting up events from a future perspective in the present was a direction that the show was beginning to explore whilst Sylvester McCoy was playing the role. When the show was cancelled on TV Virgin produced The New Adventures book series and the idea was explored and expanded therein. Now Moffatt has taken this to a new level and incorporated it into the show. Russell T Davies did Daleks, Daleks vs. Cybermen, The Master and the return of Davros and the Daleks for his finales and they were brilliant. Moffatt put his faith in his "twisty turney timey wimey" ideas and it was awesome. The twists and turns as things came to a conclusion in this season were so beautifully crafted. Having followed Doctor Who since the early 70's (I am that old!) I love the paradoxical elements of this finale and followed every one. And the ending where The Doctor is brought back from behind the sealed crack in the wall was simply amazing. And then the hint of what is to come with an Egyptian Princess on board the Orient Express in space (!!!), looking forward to that. Roll on Christmas 2010. :smt023

Indeed! A great ending, even though a lot of people I know were a bit disappointed with the lack of action so to speak...obviously they prefer action over twists...but I don't care - it was brilliant!

Apart from being a little bit confused, I really liked that.

And I've loved the series as a whole. Never thought I would do this much but it was incredible. Love Matt Smith as the Doctor plus Karen Gillan as Amy is superb, a brilliant companion.

Good to see they've left a few ends open for the next series...i.e, the silence/who or what caused the Tardis to explode..

Just got back on here again. Loved the series! Matt Smith is the Doctor and i'm so glad he has stepped up to the challenge.

Loved it! Can't wait for Christmas, it will be interesting to see the series split into two parts next year, gonna be amazing!

In truth it actually disappointed me...it had big boots to fill after the last Christmas specials...but it was still enjoyable!

This new series is sure to be brilliant, bring it on!

But we must discuss the fact that despite having a brilliant maiden series, Moffat has cost the show it's long unbeaten run in the Television Awards; Waterloo Road beating them to their usually-giftwrapped award

...but for what it's worth, Waterloo Road DID deserve the award!

Sad day for all Doctor Who fans: Nicholas Courtney died today aged 81.

Although first appearing in the show as Bret Vyon, he was of course most remembered for playing the Brigadier...as recent as a couple years ago on The Sarah Jane Adventures.

And tonight another name synonymous with Doctor Who and indeed The Sarah Jane Adventures has left us

Elisabeth Sladen has unexpectedly and sadly died, aged 63 :(

Two years ago, h2005 wrote:
I've just noticed the numberplate on the bus is different at the end of the programme compared to the start. The numberplate gets read out near the start of the episode into a walkie-talkie which drew my attention to it... at the start it's W974 GHM but by the end it's changed to RUA 461W, meaning it's changed from one made in the late 1990s to one made in the early 1980s.

Stumbled upon this quote by pure chance.

This bus, if you want to know, was a Bristol VRT/SL3/6LXB, and was new to West Riding Automobile Company in the spring of 1981 (hence the second registration).

It later operated in Essex with Hedingham Omnibuses, before being sold to BBC Wales in late 2008 along with similar HJB 455W and GGM 84W, both new to Alder Valley.

Upon arrival in Dubai for filming of 'Planet of the Dead', however, it was severely damaged by a dropped sea container. As there was too little time to ship out one of the Alder Valley buses to replace it, Russell T Davies simply decided, "Let's say the bus was damaged on its way to the alien planet."

It was scrapped after filming.

;) ;) ;)

Words fail me with the series opener...

It was full of unanswered questions, plenty of material to carry on into the series...but as for this rumoured "Whodunnit main character death" it didn't even turn out to be an immediate concern...but of course it dealt with a main character being killed and even going back into the past to fix it would mean a time paradox so how on earth are they going to overturn the events of 2011?

And of course I've carefully written that paragraph for the sake of anyone who hasn't seen it yet...but if anyone did miss it, you suck!

I seem to be the only one bothered about this series

It's been so fast-paced so far! And given all the mystery storylines and tweaks that have been let out...this has all the makings of a quality series!

Have to admit I will need to re-watch the two parter to really understand it. Seemed to me that The Doctor tossed his sonic to the ganger version a few times without getting it back and the whole story seemed a bit of a mess, unless anyone can put me straight on it all?

Me too...going to watch the lot again on iPlayer...but seriously, what an ending to the first half of the series! The hints were all there, but still, just wow!

BBC America are showing the second half of the series on Saturday 27th August and we should know by Wednesday when we get it, no doubt it will be on the same day.
