I remember ITV used to advertise their programmes on Channel 4 and vice versa, but they stopped about 7 or 8 years ago. But I just saw an ITV advert for "The Palace" on Channel 4... and I thought I had it on the wrong channel, but it was definitely C4.

Have they now started buying advertising space from each other again?

I've seen C4 advertise on some digital channels before (Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares & Shameless) but I guess digital channels aren't that much of a rival. I did notice though that when they advertised the programmes on another channel they wouldn't put the time or the day the programme was on.

Does seem a little weird though that ITV & C4 would advertise each other's programmes if they're rivals, but I guess if they pay for an ad slot then it kind of helps both channels. One gets their ad screened on another channel which might capture more viewers and the channel who screened it gets the revenue from the company who payed for the slot.

This used to be extremely common as Channel 4's adverts were sold to them by ITV's regions. (Oh, those days!) Part of the license was that Channel 4 carried ITV adverts, and the reverse was true. There was some kind of agreement whereby Channel 4's budget was effectively fixed, and if Channel 4 made more than that in advertising revenue the rest went to ITV (or vice versa if their revenue was lower than that). This ended when it became clear that Channel 4 did not need that 'safety net'.

thats the first i have seen of this. i always thought that every channel advertises for its one programmes excluding the two BBC channel of course. while on the subject of this & on a different issue while i was watching new year live on BBC one i noticed at the end credits while still stuffed with booze in my belly the year in which the broadcast was made came up as 2008 & not as MMVIII as you would expect.it got me thinking if the BBC had suddenly changed the system after more than 25 years going back to numbers rather than roman wording. but was proven wrong the next day when roman words was once again used.

There seems to be some variation with it - some programmes have it in Arabic format, but most have Roman numerals.

sory for the confusion ,the BBC & must other channels were using arabic numbers then more than 25 years ago. it would be nice to see then return instead of continuing to use MMVIXIIII or LONDON MMXII or could the BBC still use them in MMIXI
