When the huge-money Dutch version of DoND starts to run out of money, Endemol throw in the not-so-huge-money quiz show
Een Tegen 100 (One Against 100) in the same timeslot, with the same affliation to the National Postcode Lottery.
The format is very simple, not dissimilar to Millionaire, but in my opinion much more interesting. One main player competes against 100 in the audience. The player's aim is to eliminate the audience members. The way the game goes is very simple:
A category appears.
The player chooses between two difficulty levels of question.
The question appears with three possible answers.
The audience members answer the question with keypads, just like Ask The Audience on Millionaire.
The player gives his or her answer.
The host reveals if it is right or not.
If it is not, the player is out. And leaves with nothing.
If it is, the audience members who were incorrect are revealed, and the player earns €500 for each audience member incorrect.
Lather, rinse, repeat. But eliminations are worth (€50,000/number of audience members left) each, so it gradually rises, and once the first audience member has gone the player can use an 'escape' to buy an answer. He/she has three, costing 25%, 50% and 75% of their money. They must be used in order.
It's a simple but very exciting show...
...
and it's coming to the US and UK!
The US version is heading to NBC, who have the rights to DoND in the US too; apparently the top prize will be $3,000,000, which I'm reading as 'multiply all the values by ten' as the theoretical top prize on the Dutch show is not quite €310,000. This version may, apparently, also allow players to walk away.
The UK version is coming to the BBC. Expect possibly lower prizes than this, and it'll probably be a Lottery show. No word as yet though.
This was only announced today so expect a fair wait. But having seen the Dutch version myself, all I can say is that it'll be worth it.
