As a huge fan of both watching films, and seeing how they are made I'll kick off this section of the forum.

You are shortly to be exiled to an Island as yet untouched by human hands, and all the man is going to provide you with is a solared powered generator, a DVD player, a plasma TV and nine DVD's.

you may pick one movie in the following genres:

Romance
Thriller
Drama
Horror
Sci-Fi
Action
Westerns
Comedy
Other

Whether the film you choose for a genre really fits in, is of course open to debate.

Finally, if due to an unforseen your camp goes up in flames and you only have time to run in and save one DVD, which would it be?

My list runs like this:

Romance-Lost in Translation
Thriller-The Bourne Supremacy
Drama-One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
Horror-The Exorcist
Sci-Fi-Aliens
Action-Die Hard
Westerns-Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Comedy-Planes, Trains and Automobiles
Other-It's a Wonderful Life

My saver would be Wonderful Life. I will never get sick of that film.

What films would the rest of you choose?

I'm not a film buff but here you go with my selection:

Romance - Notting Hill
Thriller - The Recruit
Drama - The Shawshank Redemption
Horror - Scream
Sci Fi - Back to the Future
Action - L.A. Confidential
Western - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Comedy - Withnail & I
Other - Pulp Fiction

Best film nominated in the 'Best Film' category at this years Oscars - Crash (its about as good as Capote is bad...)

I don't watch very many films at all. I don't really watch much telly either, except for DoND, the news, The Simpsons and Futurama and anything 'special' that crops up from time to time. The only films new to me that I've seen in the past year or so are Layer Cake (which I rather enjoyed and bought the DVD) Death to Smoochy, (snap) The Cat in the Hat, (Snap again.) and UHF. (Again, snap!)

So, back on-topic, coming with me to the remote island would be any nine Carry On films. I love all of them and you'd fit most into the given selection. Hours of entertainment! Not terribly exciting to some, but I stand by my choices!

:D

I wasn't over keen on Crash. I felt a bit like they were ramming the films point down my throat for 90% of it. However, the fact that opinions differ so widely is one reason why I love films so much.

I have say I wouldn't call some of my films world-class e.g. The Recruit (generally not a fan of Colin Farrell) but I enjoyed the film so I impulsively put it in. Sadly didn't have space for The Godfather but that was also a classic. The list goes on...

Horror - Ringu
Sci-Fi - Brazil
Action - Hard Boiled
Westerns - Once Upon a Time in the West
Comedy - Dr. Strangelove

The one film I would save would be Spirited Away, there's just something about it that makes it endlessly watchable.

Great answers. from both of you.

Walord, I love the Fly, The Hitcher and Star Wars.

pe, yours are basically all great. Strangelove and OUaTitW for two.

Irreversible, while I own it, I've only ever watched it twice. Fire extinguisher to the head is hard going.

Yeah, it's a hard film to watch, but it's a film I always really get a lot out of from watching, and it's always a film that has stuck with me since I've seen it. Also, the moments in between the more extreme moments are amazingly acted and brilliantly shot, can't ask for more from a film really.
