When I was trying to think of my favourites for 2006 there were loads I struggled to remember and probably lots that I can't remember. Anyway, this might be a good thread to jot down your current favourite tracks so it's easier to fill it out in December!

My favourite song of the year to date is The Manics - Your Love Alone Is Not Enough. It's superb!

Others include:

Take That - Shine (should I be embarrassed about this?)
Mazarin - For Infinite Energy
The Cloud Room - Hey Now, Now
The Fray - How to Save a Life
Arctic Monkeys - 505
Kaiser Cheifs - Ruby
Freewheel - Duke Special
Grace - Slowly

You shouldn't be ashamed of liking Shine. Patience is better though, I think.

Favourites of 2007? I've not been listening to enough 2007 music considering I have to play a bunch of it on one of my student radio shows (Fridays at 10am, the other is Sunday at 3pm), but here goes...

The Fray - How To Save A Life
Bjork - Earth Intruders
Rufus Wainwright - Going To A Town
My Chemical Romance - Famous Last Words (was this 2006 though?)
Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
Maria Serifovic - Molitva (yes, the Eurovision winner. I loved it to pieces)
The Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control
Cold War Kids - Hospital Beds

I think Famous Last Words was released in January. Shine rocks as well.

Mine would be...

Mika - Grace Kelly
Take That - Shine
Kelis - Lil Star
Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape
Lily Allen - Alfie
The Fray - How to Save A Life
Verka Serduchka - Dancing Lasha Tumbai.

That's about it. I haven't been watching the music channels much this year.

I agree with Ciara that the Manics song is excellent. I like a list, so here's my favourites of 2007 so far...

The Shins - Phantom Limb
Candie Payne - All I need to hear
The School - All I wanna Do is (not a cover version of that cheesy Heart song...)
Dave House - Old Girl Back
Midlake - Roscoe (although technically that was last year)
Lucky Soul - Lips are Unhappy

and for a slice of unashamed pop,

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Catch You.

Kaiser Chiefs' 'Ruby' definitely.

'How To Save A Life' by The Fray has GOT to be one of them, no excuses!

'Say It Right' has to be one the best of the year so far; arguably Nelly Furtado's best tune yet.

'Standing In The Way Of Control' by The Gossip, although I never warmed to it,should be up there as well.

'Your Love Alone Is Not Enough' by the Manic Street Preachers, I think is awesome. But is also the only one out of the lot which I don't have an mp3 copy of :(

I agree with most of what's been said so far.

My top five in no particular order are:

Manic Street Preachers - Your Love Alone
Ghosts - Stay The Night
Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby
Maximo Park - Our Velocity
Sophie Ellis Bextor - Me and My Imagination.

I'm sure there are loads more I've forgotten about but they are all awesome.

Excelling yourself again, Ciara! I'm going to see Ghosts at Brighton Barfly in a couple of weeks so I shall let you know if they're any cop live! If you don't listen to Virgin Radio then you should. It tends to be on in the background at work and most of those songs have been played a fair bit in the last month or so!

I listen to Virgin, its quite a good station, over Christmas I was fed up oif all the xmas songs so I put virgin on and it was bliss.

I cant pin point the songs that have stood out so far this year as I think there have been alot, its been a good year for music so far which is great to see as I hate it when you gte months of crap songs.

The only bad thing about doing that is that it puts you in the mood for Christmas and yet it's another six months until Christmas.

But if you think about it, judging by how quick these last 6 months have gone, it ain't long to go, especially now the days are getting shorter again!
