It is disappointing that the Christmas No. 1 is a foregone conclusion. The bookmakers love taking money off people who think it will be anything else other than the X- Factor winner. It used to be fun trying to guess but not anymore. What would be an interesting bet would be how long it takes for a song to push an X- Factor winner into 2nd place.

It happened in 2004...with the X Factor winner getting to Number One a week late because of Band Aid 20.

I love Fairytale of New York, it really captures the true christmas spirit! Brilliantly written, charging stuff, and takes on an extra poignancy following the tragic death of lead singer Kirsty McColl.

Gabriella Cilmi's song is great, too bad it's always played on bloody Cooperative ads

East 17's Stay Another Day is always going to be one of my favourites...just brings back a lot of good memories from my childhood.

And then of course for humour, Geraldine's Once Upon A Christmas Song is just legendary, as is BO! Selecta's Proper Crimbo

My all time fave is Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You". Also love "Spaceman Came Travelling", "Power Of Love" and a bunch of the ones like Slade and Wizzard already mentioned.

However, here are a couple not mentioned yet:

and since the X Factor is so prominent at present (geddit? Christmas present )

Fifty Grand For Christmas - Paul Holt (by a guy who claimed if he got number one for Xmas Simon Cowell should pay him £50k, if memory serves Simon agreed. Sadly for Paul his swap of Box 1 was for a number nowhere near even the 22 on offer in the wings!!)

Oh and one more:

"It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year" by Andy Williams and used to such great effect in an M&S advert a few Xmases back.

OMG! Wanted to track down the Melanie Thornton music to see which song it was. Got it through iTunes and it is the beautiful Holdiays Are Coming track "Wonderful Dream". Absolutely brilliant and could be a contender to replace Mariah's song as my fave for Xmas. Have always been a huge fan of Melanie Thornton and didn't even realise it was the same one who was in my all time fave group "La Bouche" and who so sadly died in the croiss air tragedy. If you haven't ever heard her other songs then check them out and under La Bouche too. "Be My Lover" is my favourite song of all time, the Club Mix is awesome. Melanie was a talented singer and, from the sleeve notes of "The Best of La Bouche" her partner in the group describes her as being a wonderful person and a deeply missed friend. Such a shame that her life was so short but the legacy she leaves behind is forever immortal.

I absolutely love this song, as sung by Wilhemina herself.

So The X-Factor were denied by a campaign thru the net. Interesting that the reason behind the campaign was that the initiators seemed to be against the sheep like nature of the X Factor buying public and inspired a sheep like nature of their own!! And couldn't they have found a better song than that??
