Patrick was also the first blind player to be on the show. He wasn't actually completely blind, he could see a bit more than Andrew but not much. I always liked his system. Going through the letters of him and his wife's (Dina) name in alphabetical order, (Eg. P =16, A =1, T = 20 etc.)

5th May 2007 marks one year since Sandy played with box 7 after 22 shows on the wings. After hitting the £250k in the first round, along with 3 blues and the £1,000, she received an opening offer of £4,200. This increased to £9,400 at the second offer, but then decreased at the third offer to the lowest offer all game of £3,500.

She dealt at the fourth offer of £11,000, the then peak offer of the whole game, but her proveout fifth round went well and her hypothetical offer was £22,000, double her dealing offer, followed by an offer of £5,000 on a £1 vs £20,000 final two. She had £20,000 in her box.

Sandy's game was a very forgettable one. I'm struggling to remember what she looks like. Also, I have now had my computer for a year now! Yay!

The most memorable thing about Sandy's game was that I was eating some really nice crisps during it. I've never had them since, actually. A whole year!! I'll have to find some.

Oh, actually, there was a good Sarah moment in it too, when she was telling Noel off for criticising June's box-opening. It was Sarah's 23rd show and I remember thinking "She must play tomorrow then, surely"...I had no idea it'd be almost two weeks until she did!

It wasn't a particularly memorable game, I was struggling to think who played in between Patrick and Morris.

I do remember the Banker started being really nasty to her for no good reason after she dismissed an offer very quickly, and I think it was Simon in the wings who responded with a few comments directed at the Banker!

Ah yes, the June/Sarah/Raj moment!

June opens her box by pulling it up from the top....again
Noel: June, stop off afterwards or more box opening lessons.
Everyone laughs
Sarah: Noel! Don't be so harsh to her! It's only her fourth game! Puts her arms around June's shoulders.
June: Yes. I thought you were a nice man.
Noel: Oh come on now! Walks around the back of the wings to get to June
Raj struts up to him threateningly like some big tough guy! Noel runs away

Flip-o-blimey I wouldn't have taken £11,000 on that board...

I feel sorry for Patrick and Sandy, really...everyone remembers the main three games in that week, and Francesca a bit too, but they're mainly forgotten! I do remember that Sandy's game was broadcast on an fantastic sunny day, though, and I remembered that Sarah/June/Raj bit but not what game it was from or who the contestants were!

The morning after I had a dream where someone won £250k...

6th May 2006 is a very memorable for DOND - the day of Morris' game! Morris' game was an hour-long special on Channel 4 in the evening of that Saturday last year, and his show contained many poems from the other contestants as they opened their boxes, due to the poems Morris gave when he opened his boxes on the wings!

He had a fairly good first few rounds, with his offers being £4,590, £9,000, £12,500 and £10,000, all of which he no dealt. It wasn’t until the fifth offer when things started to "hot up" though.

With a board of £500, £5,000, £20,000, £35,000 and £250,000, Morris was offered £29,000, which he no dealt! He was then left with a final two of £20,000 and £250,000 and an offer of £101,000! He no dealt the final offer and his box was opened to reveal £20,000! :(

While I didn't know the outcome of this beforehand, I was fairly sure he wouldn't win the £250,000 as we would have surely heard about it in advance (as proved to be true when someone finally did win it!) But I had heard it was one not to be missed and that was certainly true! While the likes of Wakey who only seem to distinguish between "redness" and "blueness" would say it's a no-lose situation, I don't think I could have turned down a six-figure sum on that final pair.

I think this game marked the end of the (first?) golden age of DOND - we had a run of fairly ordinary games, and once Pat and Morris had disappeared from the wings I remember it feeling like we hardly knew anyone. I suppose looking back there were still some great characters to follow soon after, but we were entering a phase where there seemed to be less involvement of the waiting players and it didn't really pick up again until the autumn.

I honestly think that if Morris had played after Laura then he'd have dealt the £101k (or probably been offered more). He seemed so focused on being "the first" to win it! I'm pleased that it was before I discovered all the DOND stuff online so I wasn't aware that any spoilers could have got out about a quarter-millionaire, so I actually thought he was going to do it! They dragged it out long enough and even had some odd editing in there IIRC! I wish he'd done it as well as he was so much more a memorable character from the wings than Laura was.....

I think only Lance and Graeme's games have matched the excitement of it since (as I had some idea about how Claudine and Bunney and knew exactly how Laura did!)

8th May 2007 marks one year since Emma D played with box 8 after 22 shows on the wings. The lady from E11 had a good first few rounds, with her offers rising from £7,900 at the first offer to £10,000 at the second and third offers, to £14,000 at the fourth offer, which she dealt!

She did have the £250,000 and some low-red backups at the point she dealt though, and her first proveout round went badly and her fifth (hypothetical) offer was £31,000! However, after hitting the £250,000, £20,000 and £1,000 in the next round, her sixth offer would have been £14 on a 10p vs £50 board - and she had 10p in her box!

Meh, Emma D was OK but not of the high quality standard I've come to expect from E11. I liked this game though because I think it was one of the first where the player dealt for £x,000 and the Banker ended up offering £x as a proveout offer, which is always fun.

The one thing I remember about this game is that Patricia had the £250k in box 22 but she was ill so Rich had to open her box. I think it's quite cool when an absent player through illness has the £250k. That happened with Susannah once too, didn't it?

I think Sarah was off sick around this time as well, and had a big value in what would have been her box in one of those games, but not the £250k (Daniel will confirm exactly the game and the value! :) ) . She must have been due up at the time too, given her long run of shows!

(Actually I think it was Dave W's game - Simon revealed £75k in the proveout, which I think was Sarah's box rather than his own).

Yeah - Mark P opened it for her in Pat's game. Funnily enough, neither Rich nor Mark P ever had it in their own right.

It was Terri's game a year ago tomorrow in which Sarah would have had the £100k but was off ill. Her box had £10k in Dave W's game (the one chosen by Buzz).
