Today is quiet an ample anniversary for games

2006 - Candice turned down £32k at 8-box and cut her losses for £19k at 5-box after taking out the £250k in the fifth round, and was left with a £500/£75k final 2 were we saw the first ever hypothetical swap, and Candice would've swapped £75k away for £500....So did the banker win? Or Candice

2007 - Chantelle won £35k from her box after taking some big gambles, and was one of the most opinion-dividing contestants from that era!!

2008
- Ruth turned down £20k at 8-box, then crashed, then recovered to a £10/£50k final two, where she dealt at £14k but had the big money on the table all along

2009 - Like Chantelle, Claire also won £35k from the box in one of the most overlooked games of the year, after the banker underestimated her with his early offers, but she went all the way and swapped her box to win £35k! :D

2010 - Kristi had a unique game where she got to predict the banker's offers, and if she correctly guessed the offer, the banker would increase it! Much to Kristi's chagrin, she failed to do this, but ultimately dealt for £7,000 on a £100k one-box game and was right to do so as she took out the big money in the final round

2011 - Danielle had one of the unluckiest games ever, and had £50k and 9 blues at 10-box!!!! Nothing went Danielle's way, and she ended up winning £50 from her box. But then in one of the most bizarre saves in the history, the banker made an offer to give Danielle a holiday, if her BF paid him £50!!! I remember the forum crashing the day this game aired, and we were having like, a full week of the £50 coming to table or something like that!!

2012
- Damian turned down £40k at 8-box and his whole game came crashing down when he had the £425k nightmare round!! Damian ended up going home with £100, making it one of the biggest crashes in the history of the show, and setting the miserable tone that plagued the rest of the month :smt009

2013 - Wanda played after 17 shows despite being a big character on the wings, and did an early deal for £16,401, but could've had £42k if she played on 2 more rounds, but thankfully her game crashed in the last round

2014 - Ruaridh (or Rory) had his game aired a day later than planned due to the horse-racing telecast, and dealt for £17,163 and came close to a mega-money squander as his final offer would've been £65k with the big boy still in play, but luckily, he had the £100 on the table. Unfortunately, Box 23 threw more salt in the wounds as he could've doubled his money

2015 - No game on this date as the weekend shows had been abruptly scrapped again in late 2014, and by this point, the show was beginning to wind down to it's final curtain at the end of 2016

2016 - The last on this date was one of the tensest games of the show's final 12 months, Sarah was faced with a final 3 of £100/£20k/£250k.....and the banker phoned up to offer Sarah £50,000!!........And Sarah declined it!!!! Sadly, the big dreams were shattered when she discovered the £250k in the final box and was left with a £100/£20k final pairing. Sarah went all the way and won a more-than-okay consolation of £20k. Thankfully, Sarah did not push her luck any further than this, and buying box 23 would've resulted in a dead heat anyway

16 years ago, ex-contestant and forum contributer Flash (yes, that was her real name!!) reluctantly took an early deal £6,000 at the third offer, in a game that probably would've been the single most boring/forgettable game ever if it weren't for Flash's contribution to the forums at the time. The most important thing though was that Flash won enough money to pay for her wedding, and she only missed out on a couple of grand more if she'd played on (though given the way her board unfolded in the proveout, I think the post-deal offers of £3,000 and £8,400 would've most likely been the other way around in reality, I.e. £8.4k at 8-box and £3k at 5-box)

13 years ago, Sarah no-dealt £20k at 8-box, then crashed, then recovered to a £500/£35k final pairing where she dealt at £10,000 but had the £35k on the table. Interestingly, Sarah revealed her target after the game to be the £20k that she turned down! I think there may have been a bit of Alice influence in this game.....

15 years ago, Doug played a fantastic game and dealt at £75k on a £50k/£100k final pairing, he undersold the £100k but it hardly mattered (well, unless you were some guy in Ipswich who hadn't yet caught the "Wakey Noel" bug....) given how much he'd already won :D

16 years ago, Welshman David (a.k.a Dafydd as he was called on the show) played a great game and won £30,000. He was also the second player after Brenda to get an all-red final 5 and the first player to make the most of an all-red final 5. Although it was somewhat dampened by the fact that he dealt at an absymal offer on the final pairing that would later become synonymous with £100k Gaz :? Of course, Dafydd's game would still be well and truly overshadowed by a big game coming the next day! ;)

16 years ago was the 60 minutes of madness that was Jim R's game, in which he sadly went home with £500 :( Understandably, Jim R wound a lot of people up, but i didn't have a problem with him - though if i had a say, i would've chucked those louts in the audience out on their ear!

13 years ago, Maureen played with box 19 after just 15 shows on the wings.

At a time when Friday players were always the big standout characters, we got this hilariously average and forgettable game with a quiet old lady who didn't say a word on the wings and hadn't been there long.

In the first round, Maureen took out 3 blues, £1k & £100k and got an opening offer of £6,000, she played on and had an all-blue round which produced an offer of £11k, and then another great round which produced an offer £16,500 (which was easily disposable with all the red except £1k, £3k and £100k still remaining!!). She played on and blew a big hole in the reds, taking out the £35k, £50k and £75k in one round, resulting in her offer slumping to £11,500.

The big money dreams were dashed in the 5th round with the £5k, £15k and £250k coming out and leaving Maureen with a final 5 of 10p/50p/£750/£10k/£20k and an offer of £2,000. Maureen ended up with a £750/£20k finish and a very mediocre final offer of £5,000, which she DEALT :? This however proved to be the right move for Maureen as she had the blue on the table :D

So it was OK game but not a great game and certainly not an overly memorable game. Really, this game had all the traits of being the most boring/forgettable game imaginable - i.e. quite (but nice) contestant who hadn't been there for long, average win, poor/mediocre deal, high blue on table, fairly poor offers that most would decline very easily, game peaking early and then slowly collapsing to an average 4-figure win etc. - but I guess was saved by the fact that it happened during the "revival" era of early 2009, and not during the "doom and gloom" era of circa 6-12 months earlier

Let's not forget the list of crazy anniversaries on this date, such as a certain forum member playing on the second anniversary of his self-professed least favourite game ever, a "boxgate" incident that resulted in a mega money win, a £30k OPW from a game full of twists and turns, and game that caused utter turmoil in the "show of the month" poll

Niko is still the best game of March 2012 by a mile! :D

Eh, I personally think Jess/Donna were far better games. Niko was a marmite character that made a very questionable deal and squandered a pretty easy Power 5 win. :| :|

I can even understand where Mark was coming from with his actions in the Show of the Month poll, cause if Jack was close to winning the September 2014 Show of the Month poll I probably would've resorted to similar measures. :eyes: ;)

"" 'Ello Banker Bruv, I hear yer a bit shkint at da moment wiv only a penny 'a spare, but I hope me money plant 'elps ya!"

40 odd minutes later...

"Sorry mate, bit late now, just found an old £35,000 cheque I'm going to rip away right in front of you making you look like you're about to jump off a cliff, and also make you come across like a right idiot by being denied a break whilst smothering your distraught wife. Still, you can have "MY" penny as a consolation!"

I think it was more because of the way Nigel's game went and because of all the wakey-era annoyances (blue chanting, Noel's attitude, lack of characters on the wings due to chanting etc.) being at their absolute summit around this game

He said so himself on the "2007 highlights" thread and on the "....years since" thread in 2008 when it was a year since Nigel's game

I see - for some reason I thought you were talking about Steven's guilt-trip and you were a day out :-)

13 years ago was the first ever (and second-last) all-blue 8-box

16 years ago was the first ever 5-figure opening offer and the second-highest 14-box offer ever, played by a formerly beloved young lad who later sold himself out to the dark claws of politics :smt009

That was bushy, and he was beloved on this forum until he sold himself out to be a politician. Let that be a lesson to all, if you wanna stay loved and respected, don't get dragged into the grim dungeon that is politics! :smt011 :smt009

Wasn't there someone else on the show around that time who was actually a mayor and thus got quite a bit of flack for being on the show (their "marmite" behaviour on-set also further divided opinions of them)?

13 years ago, Dutchman Dirk played on the eve of the 1000th show, but sadly won 1p :( Dirk was a brilliant character however, and he kept entertaining us all the way through, which at least stopped it from being depressing to watch :)

16 years ago, Janet had a trainwreck game at the end of a classic month which started with a penny-pocketer and ended with a pound-pocketer. :(
