Adie's game today.

Noel gets the wings to do a round of applause... the was getting them to applaud the banker, as he got it right yesterday with Woodsy's final offer...

Not too bad today even though he had the £50,000 yesterday.

Adie has box 5.

He does some exaggerated bowing!! Adie has his girlfriend Helen in the audience. Adie Johnson is a project manager from Cambridge and he enjoys his job. He says he is a cheery, positive person. He says he was born with a 4lb stomach tumour which went unrecognised for a while... and he was checked out and he was operated on. He says he had 58 stitches when he fell through a window when he was 4

He shows some pics of Whitby in Yorkshire. Helen's granddad Sid died and he missed his first DOND audition. He went to Whitby to see Sid, and then went to Whitby for the funeral and got the call for an audition when he was there... and he got the call to be on the show when he was just visiting Whitby a while later.

Here we go...

Adie says he's been looking forward to this...

8 - newbie Kate - £1,000

20 - Chris - 10p

1 - Rachel - £50,000 :?

Adie says that's fine and he's happy with it. He asks for some energy and the audience applaud....

21 - Richie - £5

12 - Barry - £50

Time for the banker...

Adie is pleased with that round as he hit a big red but mostly blues and a small red...

Noel says one of the banker's all time favourites came from Whitby - Dracula  He arrived on a ship but the Whitby connection is coincidental :suspect:

Adie says it's a super offer which he's happy with... but he still has the £250k and he has a quandry over boxes 3, 4 and 5 and isn't guaranteed the swap! He says "D'oh!"

He asks Furno who says he thinks the banker is rattled... Helen says he's the gamber and she's out of the equation now :P She says she always plays safe, but Adie should do what he wants... Nic compares the offer to putting it on a bet to win £250k... Noel says he loves positive people, then says if Adie takes out the two biggest ones, the circumstances will change

Noel asks the question and the banker phones...

The banker wants to speak to Adie, but Adie doesn't really want to :P The banker hung up... Adie says the banker was quite stern... he guessed Adie's answer and if that he takes out £250k, the next offer will be next to nothing...

Adie NO DEALS

Very unlucky though Adie we need more players like you and at least you got a a technical player win and 3K :D But I was irritated he dealt 3k especially after No dealing the 21k.

Only if he was granted the one-to-open rule by the banker in which case the 3 box offer would have been very high.

Right, I've edited the mistakes I made... luckily my desktop PC was already switched on and running, so wasn't too difficult to switch to that, although I did have to turn the TV round to be able to see it. :P Normal service is now resumed...

Anyway it was an interesting game there from Adie, and he seemed like a very nice bloke... he reminded me of a comedy actor (Ben Miller perhaps? And not the one from this forum ).

The round after he no dealt the £21,500 was very tense and hopefully pleased the "Wakeyists" on here!! The deal at the fifth offer was a bit cautious after no dealing the £21,500 - but it was a bit like Di's game on a smaller scale. She no dealt a huge amount and then dealt for a much lower amount... just to ensure she got something from the game. Adie was similar in a way.

A good show overall with some good banker tactics. Maybe the banker phoning him to encourage him to deal actually had the opposite effect and encouraged him to no deal?

Well..to be honest i did find adie to be a wee bit irritating. I liked him at the beginning during the intro and then it came to him making his decision at the first offer. By all means i do not expect anybody to take the first offer, but i didnt like the way he rejected it, it was like £10,000 wasnt enough and it felt that Adie had absalutely no respect for the banker. Thats the bit were i started to think, i dont like his attitude! This is like the first time ive felt like this to a contestant for years! and why did he pick box 3! If it meant something for him, why did he go for it, as soon as he decided to go for that box i just knew it was going to be £250,000!

But thats just my opinion!

Posted: Tue Feb 05, 2008 18:41
Poor Adie, the round from hell after a tough call , pure bad luck, nothing anyone can do about it, well done to him for being brave, he can leave with his head held high.

Oh come on! If you expect no one to take the first offer, surely it doesn't matter how it is declined? I think the banker knows no one is going to take it and i'm not sure he's bothered. £10,000 wasn't enough because it doesn't meet any sort of standards for the majority of people with a brain. In my opinion no amount of money within the bankers own regions is enough to deal for the first offer.

Posted: Tue Feb 05, 2008 19:07
Wow! From a fantastic offer of £21,500 turned down, to a precautionary deal of just £3,000 - it's been a long time since we saw something of THAT calibre!!!

Woodsy lost £82,000 whereas Adie lost £18,000. They both could have had those amounts if they did something different so that's why Woodsy's was worse.

Most certainly not, but Claudine already won £100k+. Utility wise that's not much less significant to her £250,000 box whereas £18,000 is significant money but she blew lifechanging money. Adie blew significant money but still took away £3,000.

I don't understand your basis of thought. She had £100,000 in her box and still missed out on £82,000 that way whereas Adie missed out on £18,000 by not taking a higher offer. Still money lost whatever way you look at it.

Posted: Tue Feb 05, 2008 19:59
My basis of thought is that when the £18,000 was offered to Woodsy, that became real money for her, while £100,000 was just a dream and a graphic on the board. Plus Woodsy's "losing money" was all hypothetical.

I see it that once an offer is made to you, you're effectively gambling your own money, so in my eyes Adie had £21,500 to gamble at one point, and he lost £18,500 of it, while the most Woodsy could gamble was £18,000, and she didn't gamble it, so I couldn't see her lose it.

Something tells me he was chasing the £250k and then cut and run to avoid the humiliation of a blue... a glory-seeker perhaps?

Anyway, at least he did indeed avoid a blue. Huge TBW though... we'll see what happens tomorrow I guess. The players have now seen two kinds of unfortunate endings back-to-back, so they'll certainly be aware that anything is possible...

Posted: Tue Feb 05, 2008 20:18
Plus Woodsy got 18% of the highest amount available in the game and Adie got approx 13% of it if my maths is correct, so technically his game was worse. :)

I couldn't understand the no-dealing the £21,500 and taking the £3,000 either, but I guess by then he only had a potential £12,000 to gain rather than a potential £228,500...it was like Di no-dealing 44k then taking 8k in all honesty, but at least the deal was the right ting to do (if you'd started the game from that point anyway).

Can't say I really warmed to him either - I didn't mind his alomost-aggressive attitude, but his dithering about Box 3 really got on my nerves, to the point where I was shouting "JUST PICK A DARN BOX!!! :)

Because a £250,000 prize is worth taking a risk for, whereas a £15,000 prize isn't.

Not the most exciting game in terms of banter etc, though Joy might turn out to be more of an interesting character than I thought. However it was a good psychlogical game against Adie & the Banker with all the mind games. It's just a shame Adie had nearly the worst round possible after ND £21,500, I could just imagine the Banker laughing away, especially after telling him he should deal.

I'm surprised he took £3,000, but I guess he wanted to go home with a moderate sum of money rather than risk ending up with a blue.

Well, another game that i have not been as keen on...Adie was a nice guy and everything/borderline annoying.

Didn't really understand why he took out number 3 if it mattered to him so much but then again, it could have gone the other way.

And yes, i was shocked at the £3,000 deal but meh, well done Adie!

Anyway I didn't see this either - sounds disappointing.

I think a glory seeker is more someone who's interested in the top amounts, and once they've gone then they tend to deal for a lower amount. basicasic could be considered a glory seeker - as he even recently said he'd have dealt the £7k offer (or whatever it was) on a blue vs £15k final two, as he doesn't have much interest in winning £15,000 compared to £250k or £100k for example.

His reaction to the £21500 offer was quite interesting - I sensed he probably actually wanted to deal that but having built the game up around his various lucky numbers and the 250k being in his box, I think he thought he would look a bit of a prat if he bailed out there and carried on... with rather unlucky consequences.

I thought he straddled a fine line between confidence and cockiness and just about got away with it...

The reason I didn't really understand the deal was becuase after turning down over 21k, winning 3k would barely have been better than winning a blue to me, whereas there was still the chance to get back up to 15k in which case I'd go home happy - but I guess he saw it differently, and of course the deal was 20% of the highest remaining amount, where the previous no-deal was less than 10% of the highest remaining amount....

:)

Yeah that's exactly my thinking as well. If I took the £3k then I'd regret what had happened even if the proveout turned out well (as it did), whereas going on and winning £15k would eliminate most of the regret I felt from turning down the £21.5k.

Me! :D

But yeah, the cut-and-run option after a big No Deal is slightly odd, and I think it's the action of someone looking to avoid humiliation (which seems to be the case here especially, after he was seemingly being dragged on by superstition). I think that if I'd turned down £21,500 I'd have gone on to take £2,750.

Another way of looking at it is that if £21.5k wasn't enough to tempt him, then why should he be interested in chasing the lesser amount of £15k? In which case, why not take the £3k, especially considering that given the board it was a pretty decent offer?

I can't see anything wrong with people deciding to take risks for the huge life-changing amounts but being a lot more conservative if the huge life-changing amounts aren't there any more.

Well I'd personally have tried for the £15,000 as it's much closer to £21,000 than £3,000

Well as a renowned Wakeyist I'd personally have to agree there.
And I'd have gone on to win whatever it is Adie won.
