Angie's game today.

Noel says we're feeling good after the interesting game yesterday - Noel says he found the game difficult. He says how she was a undertaker and he comes out with LOADS of undertaking puns!! He says how Mel dealt too soon. He says the players should make the most of the once in a lifetime opportunity.

Noel says Angie is a Saturday star.

Angie has box 7 and has a little ornament from Cornwall - it's a lucky pixie. She says she is really excited! She shows some pics of her family and her dog. Her husband is in the audience. He tells a romantic story of how they met a long while ago in a car park and Noel says he's read about this in a newspaper!

She says her mum Margaret is a huge fan of the show and Noel and Noel says "mwah" to the camera as he blows a kiss to Margaret  Angie is going to keep the banker guessing regarding her target and says her system is to WIN! :P She does have some lucky numbers

Here we go...

14 - John - £3,000

18 - Audrey - 1p :D

Noel says the 1p has been so pivotal this week so it's good it's gone early today :D

21 - Martin - £250

Angie is confused by how many boxes are left, and Noel says they've put some extra ones out to confuse her :P

13 - Dot - £35,000

6 - Rachel - £5

Time for the banker...

Banker phones quickly and talks about Mel and how it was crazy going at £20k when she could have had £45k. The banker thinks he's in love as he dreamt he was having a shower in a wardrobe, and Bing came up to him and said "You're not French are you?" Bing says when she got back to the hotel last night, there were loads of biscuits out and she took them!! She invites the banker to nibble on her biscuits tonight :P

The banker says it's a cast iron DEAL! Bing continues and says she has some claret in the fridge for the banker, and she continues making offers to try and encourage the banker to join her tonight!! :P She talks about underwear and Noel asks if he's still interested, and he says he's more interested now! Noel says how Bing was on the train and was mistaken for a lady of the night

Banker's offer

£7,900

22 - Semi - £100

8 - Ben - £10

Angie says 8 is her birthday. Angie tells us to put the kettle on and she tries to ask us to watch her win... but she fluffs it and does it again!! :P

This is looking very strong indeed. Only hope she can make the most of it.

We're back from the break!

16 - Reg - £5,000

Banker time...

The banker likes how Angie met her husband in a car park, and he wonders if the first draft of Brief Encounter was set in a car park!! The banker is worried by Angie's board. He believes that she is a tight unit with her husband.

Banker's offer

£12,900

She asks what Ben thinks and he says there's loads left. Adie tells her to crack on

Angie NO DEALS

Impressive board. Should get a good offer but far too much too play for yet.

Banker is quick again at calling

He speaks to Angie and she says to him she's excited, then she says "Oooooh"!   He made reference to meeting her in a car park and slapping a ticket on her  :P

Banker's offer

£20,000

£20k. No where near enough for that board.

Posted: Sat Jan 26, 2008 17:34
The banker thinks Mel had a target of £20k which is why she dealt yesterday, and he thinks Angie has the same target and he's hoping Angie will deal too

Angie says the banker has got her wrong. Ben says £20k isn't bad but she has a strong board and Geoff agrees that there's one more round in it. Angie says it's fantastic that she's even here let alone with a strong board

Angie NO DEALS

12 - Adie - £50 :D

Noel calls a break...

I hope to God she doesn't deal with this board. Failing our second quarter millionaire, just look at that board. £100,000, £75,000, £50,000, £20,000, £15,000 and £10,000 all backing up that £250,000.

The board we need for a gambler to accept.

Posted: Sat Jan 26, 2008 17:39
The problem is that now she's bound to hit reds. Its a matter of which ones though.

My guess is next offer will be be huge and she'll bail.

We're back

Noel says this is a powerful game

5 - Chris - £250,000

Tis a pity, but come on. Look at that stability.

Posted: Sat Jan 26, 2008 17:42
The banker says he's had a sigh of relief, and that if Angie had taken out low numbers, he'd have offered £50,000+!

Banker's offer

£20,000

Posted: Sat Jan 26, 2008 17:43
She asks Simon and her husband for some advice...

She quickly NO DEALS

Well done. Thought that offer was a bit tight.

15 - Woodsy - £100,000  :(

4 - Jill - £50,000  :?

11 - Viv - £10,000 :?

Banker time...

50% chance if she goes on, she'll have the same offer again or more.

Noel says £15k could be worse. Noel says it is a comfortable sum of money. Semi says she'd deal. Furno thinks it'll turn around again if she no deals.... a few others say deal including John, Viv, Woodsy, Reg... One or two say no deal.

The main reasons for them advising deal are that they are worried about her going away with a blue. Laura says she's surprised as Angie is thinking about this so much - as she knows Angie is here to play the game. Angie says she likes a gamble

Angie DEALS

Exactly the reason she should have played on.

Noel says it was interesting to see the gambler bubbling up in he and being surpressed...

20 - Simon - 10p

"NO NO" shouts Noel and he says maybe the gambler should've come out...

Noel says in a very menacing tone that this HAS to be £75k!!

9 - Bing - £75,000 :D :D

17 - newbie Katherine - £15,000

Banker time with 50p and £20,000 remaining

Yeah £20,000 in the box. Not too much lost but could have recovered back to the £20,000 offer before.

Well, 15,000 is a lot of money.

Noel says that was an interesting game as her peak offer was her box amount

Noel says at least Angie knows she could never have got the mega money despite the excellent start to her game.

Then why do you keep watching it and keep posting on here, if you think its boring then there are other shows to watch!

I thought Angie was lovely, a great woman who took that collapse of the board well. £15,000 is a great amount of money and you cant complaign to much about losing out on £5k, its not like there was mega money lost in this game!

A great game, great player and alot of funny banter!

Well Done Angie on £15,000!

Well after yesterday's over inflated offers, it seemed the offers were too low today. I'd have expected £26K at 11 box today.

Posted: Sat Jan 26, 2008 19:02
The £20k at eleven-box was a clear targetism check, Angie was having none of it, but from then on it was excellent play from both sides - the stick could have caught some out but not Angie, the £15k was well-judged and a deal was entirely reasonable, and she'd have had to take an all-or-peanuts gamble at the end to get a better outcome.

I may possibly have won 50p from that game. Which would probably have triggered a long period of targetism... I'd like to think I'd have taken £15,000 though.

Posted: Sat Jan 26, 2008 19:18
That game just never quite got in the really powerful position it could have done - but I was pleased she didn't deal either 20k offer as I thought a deal at the third offer would have actually been a big mistake there, unlike Mel's - Angie had a MUCH better board at that stage. The first 4 boxes after the break were horrible luck, and she did get out when there became a danger of winning a blue (I wouldn't have fancied the 20k/blue or 15k/blue scenarios either), so she made perfectly reasonable decisions.

Again I could tell it wasn't going to the end due to the time, but what I thought was going to happen was she'd hit a fairly low one just after the second break, the banker would offer something like 50k and she'd take it. Shame it didn't work out like that. :(

But 15k is still very nice! :)

A game that will be remembered for the strength of the board mid-game and little else.

I just can't see people continuing to watch stuff like this.

Today's offers were fine. They adhered to 'poor offers on good boards and good offers on bad boards' strategy. She might have dealt 26k which would have been disasterous.

No one should worry about the viewing figures,it will always be the most popular show on the box(you always get one who,s never satisfied)

I'd love to agree with you Pat but unfortunatly if the 250K had been won again or was won in the upcoming weeks (They recording March shows now) There is no way on earth it would have been kept secret it would get out 2 months in advance just like the first one was.

Are you trying to tell us something, Pat?! Just kidding, but you're right, it's got to be won again sooner or later. Anyway, Angie's game. I was so surprised how bubbley and confident she was. She seemed nice enough on the wings, but she was a bit quiet. I wish she'd gone to the end and got the £20k, but £15k is a lot of money. Hope she enjoys spending it!

Hi, crazy chair, Angie was so quiet on the shows, she is a lovely person and only lives just down the road from me,i was really amazed how she suddenly came to life when in the chair she must have been so excited .i was so pleased for her.She work,s in one of our local colleges so she will be popping in when passing and i will know more.

We seem to be having people play games that are aired on Saturdays that are either very unlucky (Natasha) or average (Angie). Sorry to only use the two most recent games as examples but we haven't had a thrilling game on a weekend date for a long time now!

I think entertainment-wise, Stephen probably gave us the most recent entertaining game on a weekend airing.

It was going to be either £20,000 or £15,000 for Angie anyway, I was even gunning for a £15,000/£20,000 finish so we knew for a fact it would have only been one or the other.

That would certainly have been funny!

I'd like to see a third-offer OPW and a third-offer £250k sale to see the reaction here!

You've more or less got to take out everyhting above the offer dealt at in 3 boxes, or failing that, significantly reduce the mean of the remainign boxes to below the deal! :)

It just goes to show you how such a strong game can turn so quickly. Considering the strength of Angie's board she never got an offer above £20,000, despite the fact her board was stonger than Mel's from the day before and the Banker offered £20,000 when I was at least expecting the dreaded £26,000.

The deal of £15,000 was reasonable because in a sense it was only a one box game and if Angie had hit the £75,000 (which she did) the offer would not of been significant. So to risk £15,000 for potentially just an extra £5,000 wasn't worth the risk and I have a feeling I would of dealt there myself in that situation.

Overall though it's been a varying week of shows what with a nice OPW to start to week, then a new member joining the 1p club and also a 3rd round deal.

The following list is the order in which I would rate each show this week - Starting with 1 being my favoruite this week through to 6 being my least.

1. Mark
2. Shaun
3. Sue
4. Nikki
5. Angie
6. Mel

No mega wins no banters like last year no 250k winner no bunneys :( :smt022 :smt022

That sums up my feelings as well. It sounds harsh but that's the point in a TV show, I keep saying it but a TV show isn't made primarily to fulfill people's personal needs but it is made to entertain an audience of over 1,000,000 people.

Yes, she could have got £20,000 but still £15,000 is lovely money. Well done Angie!

And seeing someone gamble their way to a disastrous outcome - which isn't an inevitable consequence of every gamble of course, but is always a possibility - isn't terribly enjoyable for many people to watch. Although I suppose the 'buzzkill', as the Americans might put it, comes at the end of the show, rather than at the deal point (which isn't the buzzkill moment for me, but I concede it is for many people).

I'll concede right away that I'm at least mildly uncomfortable with gambling on some level. I have a natural aversion to risk, and DoND is actually where I am at my least risk-averse because the game exists in a mathematical bubble where there is a great deal of certainty about the possible outcomes and it is reasonable to make certain assumptions (such as a general rise in generosity through the game). The vast majority aren't like that - or are they? The older demographic - perhaps the most important for DoND - tend to be much cooler in their attitudes towards gambling than the younger generation that is disproportionately represented on here (although there is a significant group of university students, myself included, that perhaps flips that round).

The younger viewers may be finding DoND no longer exciting, and flick to doing whatever else with those 45 minutes per day. The older viewers may be angry at the show's emphasis on gambling (don't forget, at least one of the main newspapers read by this demographic, the Mail, has run a vigorous campaign against casino expansion, and there's similar concern about gambling regularly expressed in the Express and Telegraph) and flick to... probably The Royal Today now, it was Heartbeat or period drama repeats before. (Very smart scheduling by ITV1, and it soaked up a lot of viewers from DoND. I think the genesis is, indeed, disillusionment with DoND.)

Although I've no doubt this is an overgeneralisation, and that at most I'm describing a majority of the transfer in each case. Heck, I'm a younger viewer and effectively stopped watching on the grounds of its gambling emphasis - though NOT to watch ITV1!!

I don't care how they will enjoy the money I care for having a game to entertain me

That sums up my feelings as well. It sounds harsh but that's the point in a TV show, I keep saying it but a TV show isn't made primarily to fulfill people's personal needs but it is made to entertain an audience of over 1,000,000 people.

And seeing someone gamble their way to a disastrous outcome - which isn't an inevitable consequence of every gamble of course, but is always a possibility - isn't terribly enjoyable for many people to watch.

Oh for goodness sake!! What is disastrous about going away with more money than you came with, having spent 2 weeks living it up in lovely hotel? Even a 1p winner gets that.

It isn't as if they've lost a bean of their own money or had a rotten time. Its just their greedy aspirations have been dented slightly by some bad luck in which, after all, is a gambling show. They know the risks before they take part and should be mature enough to take the knocks. If you can call the above a knock.

Clearly you see the whole game in the domain of gains, and this allows you to sweep paper losses, as it were, under the carpet.

Fair call if you feel able to do that.

Most contestants - and more pertinently most viewers - can't.

I liked Angie and she produced a good show on Saturday. It's a shame her board collapsed half way through like that, but £15,000 isn't a bad sum to walk away with after that. Turns out it was the right thing to do too...
