Claire's game today.

Noel welcomes us to the weekend.

He says we've had ups and downs this week, but we hope to make someone's dream come true today as always...

OH NO, yesterday she had the £100,000. Oh dear.

Lets hope that she does as well as Sheffield Wednesday did this lunchtime.

Its all random, She could have £100,000 today or even better £250,000!

Good Luck Claire!

Claire has box 2.

She is from Sheffield, but has lived in London for some of her life. She shows some pics of her family, including pics of her daughter. She says how her daughter had been born with a heart problem, and has had operations and whilst she still has holes in her heart, she lives a normal life. Claire says she's her inspiration. Claire has her Mum in the audience. She has a drawing her daughter did for it.

She's kept a track of the boxes she's had during her time on the wings and she's going in order of boxes she's had each game

Here we go...

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:17
16 - Simon - £3,000

Box 16 was the box she had in her first game which was Orry's

5 - Ben - £10,000

4 - Mel - £10

Box 4 is the box she had in her favourite game - Hayley's

10 - John - £100,000 :(

Box 10 is the box she had in Stu's game

6 - Mark - 1p

Box 6 was the box she had in Glen's game

Time for the banker...

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:18
Well she didn't have the £100k today! But the 1p has gone so plenty left to play for.

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:19
She's using Steve's system (and also the one I would use), and he ended up with 10p, let's hope she does better than Steve.

Claire is very happy about that round. She has a dream of going to New Zealand. She says £250k would buy her a new life in NZ

The banker says the hotel is like a bomb site!! Noel hears some stories about what the contestants have got up to... including doing a moony in the corridor!!

Banker's offer

£7,500

But if only her game yesterday, she would have won that as it was in her box as hopefully she would have gone all the way.

Let's hope she goes all the way today for £250,000.

Banker says no-one has ever had this system before.

She's going to be a few boxes short with this system having only played 20 games and had duplicate box numbers.

At least she won't win less...

13 - Richie - £50,000

Richie talks about how he has always had high numbers. She had box 13 in Clive's game

Bing tells a story about how she has problems having a bath...

17 - Bing - £5

Claire chooses box 12 which she had in Deano's game, and Noel calls a break saying her system is a bit flaky...

12 - Geoff - £5,000

Banker time...

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:28
She's never had boxes 7,11,14,15,18,19,21 or 22 so her system won't last long.

Her daughter draw box 8 on the drawing and had £250k in it. Claire says she had £100k in box 8 yesterday, and box 8 is due to be opened late in her game

The banker is unsettled by Viv, as she is giving the players confidence

Banker's offer

£9,000

Box 8 will be the last box opened in this part of the game.

9 - Semi - £20,000

She had box 9 in Kenny's game

1 - Nic - 50p

3 - Angie - £250

Banker time...

The red ladder isn't too bad. The loss of the minor reds isn't too siginifcant at halfway.

The banker thinks Claire's confidence is bubbling up like llava in a volcano

Banker's offer

£15,000

She does seem to be aware of whats on the board and the possibilities. So hopefully she won't just grab the money and run.

£15K isn't too bad on that board to be honest.

20 - Nikki - £15,000 :(

She's leaving number 8 for now and her system has come to an end.

7 - Viv - £35,000 :?

"OHHHH" says Noel...

Noel asks if she wants thinking time and she does... so Noel calls a break

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:35
Lordy! The reds are starting to look a bit thin now.

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:35
And now we have the dilemma of a very volatile board versus the Psychic daughter.

Personally this is the danger if you believe in certain boxes having big amounts - if you have a dangerous board like this, it could either prove disasterous because you get over-confident or you could deal and find the big money is in box 8.

£15,000 was ok but £35,000 makes the board look very dangerous.

Looks like Pippa's board...

21 - Adie - 10p

Banker time...

Noel says the number 8 is worrying the banker

Banker's offer

£15,000

£15K again and I'd probably be out of here right now. Doubt £250K and peanuts would give a lot more at 5-box.

I'd be even happier with the extra 10%.

Editor needs shooting again there. We never saw the box opening.

11 - Ferno - £1,000

14 - mummy Sue - £250,000 :(

We didn't see the value in the box at first, Noel's face was shown when it was opened and we heard groans :?

18 - Laura - £50

Banker time...

I do hope she doesn't crash and burn here but playing the odds would have worked so far today.

Noel says he has to be impartial and is worried that Claire is asking for the question too soon

Claire DEALS

And to think yesterday she would have got a lot more than that.

Haha. I could have swore she was going to no-deal.

Noel says

22 - Shaun - £750

Noel says it would have been a great start

She says she'll go with Woodsy as she thought she had a big number... :?

15 - Woodsy - £500

19 - Dot - £1

Banker time with £1 and £75,000 remaining...

This is going to be an OPL isn't it...

£31,000 offer coming up I suppose.

Edit: Ok, it's believable, but shut up Noel.

£24,500

£24,500 is a little bit inflated to be honest.

Claire says she would have swapped

Noel opens Claire's box 2 and reveals £100... :?

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:51
OMG Box 8 did have the £75k

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:52
The other box - the box Claire would've swapped for - box 8 - newbie Audrey - £75,000

Noel says that's an extraordinary game, as a gambling Claire emerged but didn't stay out long enough. She says how she didn't want to go home with a low amount

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:52
Trust it to be in box 8 - just like Tracey's game - Shame we couldn't have had an ND there though - would have felt better than Shaz's game.

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 17:52
At least they seem to have done away with physically doing the hypothetical swap but how does Noel know that she wouldn't have dealt the £24.5K making it all even more hypothetical.

Well nasty old basicasic liked Claire; her attitude towards the game was spot on and as she said it's her one great opportunity to make a dramatic difference to her life. She played with a smile and positive disposition and was always aware of the potential on the board whilst weighing up the offers. No wimpery or greed today.

The steady revealing of red amounts left the board in an increasingly precarious position but even so Claire turned down some decent offers to chase the big money whilst it was there. I wish she hadn't dealt when she did but unlike many she actually took a couple of risks to get where she was at 5 box so I don't begrudge her her deal.

Of course sod's law dictates that she would have ended up with £75k had she toughed it out but there were no histrionics and she seemed genuinely pleased with what she won.

An enjoyable show despite the less than ideal ending.

Posted: Sat Jan 19, 2008 19:32
Noel says he has to be impartial, then at the end basically criticised her for not saying No Deal.

Anyone for Duel tonight? At least that's got a game and an honest host (if memories from Win My Wage serve me rightly)...

I have just thought that if Claire had picked box 8 according to when her system said she should, then picked the rest of them in the same order, she'd have had an all-blue last 5, so I guess in some ways she's really grateful she did! :)

But it was a good game, I genuinely would have been struggling at £16,500 and it's really difficult to make the correct decision on a board like that, but I was pleased that she got a repsectable get-out offer at 5-box, and not a really insulting one like Irene's - offering £1,000 as he said he could would have been just stupid with £500 and £750 there that are very close to it too! :)

It seems as though, in a 1-box game, the banker is putting a real premium on boxes like the 3k and 5k, it stops him offering something really crap if you can still get a few grand even if the biggie goes, rather than pocket change.

That should encourage others to maybe go a round further and possibly get the life-changing money!

And Claire was really lovely too - but it doesn't seem to be one of the luckiest names for DOND players sadly!!

Casting minds back to Terry, who was offered £25,000 on an identical board to Claires when she dealt however he had £250,000 and she had £75,000. That shows how bad the £6,500 offer was that she took. However with only one amount higher it is a tough situation to call. It really is the gamblers board.

Or it shows how stupidly over-inflated Terry's £25,000 offer was. Bear in mind, that was in proveout.

Not the biggest of wins but still a nice game. I wasn't expecting Claire to deal when she did but with one decent amount on the board it was understandable that she decided to deal at the time. So well done Claire :)

Hi there - I just wanted to say thank you for all of the positive comments about my game yesterday.

I do like a gamble and did truly believe that I would always play right to the very end no matter what as it would be the only chance I would ever get at winning a life changing amount of money.

However, it really is totally different when you are sat there looking at the board and I had seen so many people go away with a blue and I sooo didn't want that to happen to me. Yes, I dealt at the wrong time and should have held on to the belief that the 75k was in Box 8. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I still sometimes wake up in the middle of the night kicking myself!! In saying all that - £6500 is still a respectable amount of money and we go to New Zealand in 5 weeks time for a month.

Claire x

Hi Claire, it's a shame you didn't get more money but as you say hindsight is a wonderful thing :)

Winning a blue certainly wouldn't of got you a months long trip to New Zealand. So I hope you have a good time out there :)

An interesting game. I really liked Claire after this game and am glad she went away with a nice sum of money.

Posted: Sun Jan 20, 2008 22:40
But Claire's daughter predicted box 8 would contain the £250k...which it didn't.

It was never foreseen that the £75k would be in box 8, so once the £250k had been opened it could have been any value in box 8 and it would have ade little difference.

I'm pleased Claire is happy with her game and would have regretted more if she'd gone home with a blue than blowing the chance for an extra £68500.

An interesting game there for Claire... as Noel said, she seemed to take a gamble at £15,000 / £16,500, but then felt a bit more cautious at £6,500. Unfortunately it swung in the banker's favour and she could've gone on to have more. It was quite interesting also that we had box predictions (with box 8) on the year anniversary since Psychic Sarah!

There was a 60% chance that your course of action would have been right. 80%, if you would have gone for it at the end.

You just needed to be fortunate enough to keep the £250k another round, then you'd have at least won £20k (either through taking the five-box offer for much more than that, or taking a probable £20k+ on a blue/£75k offer, or going for it at the end and pulling off a great swap).

I think I might have done the same but I'm not at all sure. And I'm glad that you did have a certain grasp of reality in the chair, some people get deluded completely the other way and I hate that.

Yes, it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Let's flip that round. If you take a gamble and it goes wrong, you can't just take the 'losses' and try and recoup them! Put it this way. If, instead of playing one game, you played ten games and won the average amount of all ten, I'd probably No Deal all the way to the end every time, because over that many games chances are you'll get a couple of big amounts in your box and that'll more than make up for the five blue wins you'd expect out of ten, producing a better average outcome.

But you can't just 'take the hit and move on' that way in a one-shot. Or if you can, you're probably more than a little naive, or already wealthy.

The 'play on until it becomes a one-box game' strategy is entirely understandable, and with your five-box offer being about the same in percentage-of-the-mean terms as your eight-box offer it was definitely valid on this occasion.

Enjoy New Zealand - it's one hell of a place from what I understand, not that I've been!

Hi Claire

Well done on winning £6.5k. A nice sum and there was no guarantee that you would have been offered the swap for box 8 (or was that bit edited out ?).

Enjoy your month in New Zealand

Jim
