MJ's game today.

With the pilgrims rarring to go, Noel says we are all feeling good at the moment as the week is going well so far, but he would like a mega money win today.

This is what MJ looks like as a man:

She calls herself Ian Towning when she's a man, and works as an antiques expert on ITV's "Dickinson's Real Deal".

A gambler :)

I have high hopes here.

MJ has box 5 today, which Mark E carries to the pound table for him, although he makes a mess of it as he nearly loses all her piccies on the way :P

MJ tells Noel that she has retired from everything and gambling, and tells Noel how she used to work in a bookmakers and has also been involved in other areas of the gaming industry. This impresses Noel, and he thinks it will be a good battle today...

Here we go...

This will be a play to the end game, for sure!

Having said that though, last time I thought it'd happen, it didn't!

We know MJ has a box, but which one?

I think MJ could be a good player, though I don't expect her to go all the way.

Round 1

Mark E first and Noel thinks that he has been in the bar all night after the way he carried the box to the table!!

18 - £10 Mark E

7 - £100,000 Mark S

Adie next and he tells MJ that she hurt him last night when she bit his neck!!! :P

19 - £5,000 Adie

13 - 10p Ben

1 - £75,000 Nikki

Banker time

Noel makes his desires clear for the 2,063rd time, there.

I'd love a shock early Deal for an OPW, but we'll see. Is she a Di-esque happy gambling pensioner, another Beryl - or, as I'm predicting, somewhere in between?

And will the game actually allow us to find out? It might not!

Bit of damage in that first round. Hope it doesn't continue. I think MJ would take advantage of a good board.

MJ starts to pick another box before Noel stops her with a "ring ring" :P

The banker describes MJ as elegant and dangerous :P And he thinks that he is in with MJ and asks everyone how much it would cost to get rid of them :-D

MJ picks Mel with box 22 next, but Noel calls a break, and MJ asks him if he is having a brandy :-D

MJ is another one who's been fairly quiet (although intriguing) on the wings but is very good in her game! And her gambling attitude will be interesting... is it a Pat G style bluff?

Pat was who I was thinking of during the first phone call...I'm sure you don't win £16,500 by gambling to the very end though? ;)

And if it is a bluff, will it work as well as Pat G's? More pertinently on this board, will she even get the chance to prove either way?

Great offers too.

Noel thinks that MJ has what it takes to go all the way and win the £250,000 today...

3 - £100 Angie

Bing next and Noel tells us that her surname is Bong, and then gets into a dispute with Bing over her real surname :P

2 - £15,000 Bing

Pat next, and she tells Noel that she is never going to play is she :P

Noel calls a break...

Ooh, newbie Richie is richierich who came in the chatroom on here on Saturday. I was confused at first as I thought he was Richie Rich who said he'd had an audition on the forum a while back... but it turns out he's a different richierich. Anyway, he looks a bit like "New Oreans Dream Offer" Tom from Sept '07.

If the £250k is in her box I reckon MJ will win it. Mind you, we'd have heard long ago if it had been won so I'm not holding my breath.

Bing isn't her real first name either :suspect:

This is wonderful stuff, as long as the Power 5 amounts don't get found in this last box, it should be a £20,000+ offer!

Posted: Wed Jan 16, 2008 17:44
Early break too, don't really want to tear myself away from this but have a piano lesson at 5 and it's enough of a walk away that I have to go! Can't remember the last time I wanted to follow the game's outcome and couldn't...!

Prediction for the hell of it: biggie to go 19th box, and she'll win the £15,000 in Box 5.

I think I'd deal here; although I may negotiate a £26,001 offer or something so I wouldn't have to win what has become a verrry boring amount.

I pray it works out for her. Everything is crossed.

WOW! What an offer for that board!

Only someone who was playing for the £250,000 and nothing else would No Deal that!

Then again it is £26,000 AGAIN! Because of the latter, I'd probably play on.

With a normal player, I suspect £26,000 may be offered again. However, with MJ I reckon it'll be more like £35k / £36k... maybe £40k. This higher offer would also be the offer if the player had dealt...

This is going to be fascinating now says Noel, and in a normal game the banker would play on how the £50,000 went, but with MJ in the chair he thinks he will be worried...

MJ still talks about playing on as the £250,000 is in play, and the banker takes ages to call...

The banker apologises for the wait, and he say he has written down 6 offers and has crossed them all out, and this is one of the most difficult offers he has had to come up with...

Banker offers

£41,000

I wish Noel would tone down the exaggeration and hyperbole.

"...the most important call the Banker will ever make..."
"...the whole game is over if this is the quarter mil..."
"...the most difficult offer he's ever had to create..."

Yes, it's an exciting game, but I do get tired of all these statements.

And now the £250k has gone, this is the 2nd OPW by dealing in a row. They seem to be like buses - no OPWs by dealing since mid-November and then 2 in a row. Also, it's the much sought after Power 5 range OPW by dealing or otherwise since Chris B's £76k win on Halloween!

Mumtaz in the early run about two years ago had a similar Final Five, except that the £1,000 on today's board was £500 in her board, and she only got an offer of £24,000, which she dealt.

Interestingly, she knocked out the £250,000 in the 2nd box of the proveout like today's game.

No it is not I would probably no deal because I am a gambler and I would rather try win the ultimate amount than take the money and find it in my box.

Good game today though and suprisingly good offer I must say!

Another cracking show. Lots of banter and general entertainment and MJ was a revelation in the chair after being quiet on the wings. She was determined and positive but also played the game in a very lighthearted and happy manner.

The board was quite reasonable throughout although the £250k was left exposed quite early on. I'm sure many people would have dealt the £26k offer. But not MJ. And her bravery was rewarded with an impressive subsequent offer. My only disappointment (and it is minor really) was that MJ didn't go to the end and win the £250k. Still, she took a risk, it paid off (she extracted an exceptional offer from the Banker) and then she dealt. So I'm happy with that.

And the proveout once again vindicated the decision.

Excellent show. This was DOND at its best.

Would have been £26k for me but MJ's speed of rejection certainly drove that next offer up, to a level where the only people who could turn it down probably deserve to lose it (or, failing that, plain don't need it).

And thankfully she took it and was right to do so! I'm not sure how calculated her risks were, but the fact that she didn't Wakey it to the end showed it wasn't exactly naivety in her play, just calm aggression.

I hope the fact she displayed the kind of attitude Noel loves and then Dealt at the right time will cause Noel to put slightly more emphasis on dealing. Even if there's something to temper it, and even I would say there should. While pro-Deal bias is probably less bad than anti-Deal bias in that it doesn't act as an endorsement of fiscal recklessness, it makes for at least as dull a game if it's followed, and bias is bias and bias is bad, no matter what.

Back to the game, I think we can say we just saw a classic. Well done MJ for doing so much to make it so!

That game was absolutely amazing. Definitely what we needed.

From her time in the wings i hadn't thought MJ would have been as big a character as she was...i knew her game would be interesting.

Brilliant, game of the month potential!!

What a great game. It's amazing how if you can put the fear into the banker then you can get the kind of offer that MJ got today at 5 box.

I think today's game would pretty much please everyone on here - we had a gambler to please the gamblers on here and a sensible deal to please the dealers on here.

That was brilliant - just goes to show demeanour in the chair is everything - every time everyone gets an offer like that 41k in proveout, I want to throw things at the TV for them being unfair, but I can't now as they've done it in active play!

I thought we were back in January 2007 with offers like the 26k at 8-box, but we were back in 2005 with the 5-box offer! 41k is more than what I'd expected had she kept the 50k to 5-box too! :)

And she was great the fact that she didn;t give away a thing on the wings - and tunred into a fabuluos game player, and totally livened up in the chair - that's why I can ever fully form an opinion of a contestant until they've played!

And does anyone know how the name "M.J" came from Patricia Quinn?

Enjoy the 41k!! :)

True, and it also goes to show that demeanour in the wings is important too. M.J didn't do or say a lot in the wings, therefore the banker didn't know what to make of her when she got to the chair, so he believed her when she said she was a gambler.

What a great show that was today! A really nice Power 5 range OPW which we have been needing recently... I was intrigued about what MJ would be like in her game, so I was looking forward to it. And just as I suspected, she livened up in the Crazy Chair despite being a "silent assassin" (as Noel called her) on the wings.

I got into today's show a lot, and it was great to see her determined attitude being mixed with an attitude of knowing when the good time to deal is. A cracking show, and I hope we get more like this - 2008 is great for DOND so far.

What a game, the 41K was a bit too high but it was great! Exactly the sort of game we needed. :)

Whoever said Graeme had an identical board is slightly off, Graeme had a backup of 20k. I was shocked when I heard the offer. The banker offered less to Ashleigh and Theresa with 100k as a backup. I can only imagine what her offer would have been if she NDed and then kept 250k to the end. I think her offer with 10k/250k would have been 110k.

I hope MJ never comes to Las Vegas. That bluffing skill would serve her well and she might own a hotel or two....

M.J certainly surprised me in her game and if i'm being honest I wasn't expecting such an enjoyable game, but M.J soon proved me wrong.

When M.J said at the start she was a gambler I was wondering if she was just saying that for show. But it became obvious when at the table and whilst that £250,000 remained M.J was determined to go on. Which is why I was praying that it wouldn't go early on.

M.J barely reacted to any of her offers and even the Banker's predictable £26,000, which was actaully good for the board, failed to work. However when the Banker offered £41,000 that was an amazing offer, much more than I expected, and I am not surprised M.J dealt. It would of been far too risky to turn down with only £10,000 as your biggest back-up.

This is my 2nd favourite game of the month (after Clive) so well done M.J on the perfect game, I bet you had a few whiskys that night :D

41K is a lot of money, use it well and someday you will be rewarded.
