Glen's game today.

Noel wishes everyone a happy new year as he takes us into 2008, and he runs through the highs and lows of 2007...

Glen has box 9 today. Glen is from Billingham, and is a DJ, Noel says that he has always wanted to be a DJ :P Glen tells Noel that he is known as StreetBoy on the radio, as he goes out and about on the streets doing various things, and tells us the weirdest thing he ever did was dress up as a woman and go out for a bra fitting!! :P

Glen shows us a few family pics, and tells us how he suddenly lost his dad earlier in the year. Glen has his partner in the audience, and Noel asks her to stand up and turn sideways! She is pregenant with twins that are due in 2 1/2 weeks!!

Here we go....

Glen tells Noel that he has been brought up to respect his elders, and the banker tells him that he has been brought up to clip little boys around the ear

The banker congratulates Glen on the upcoming birth of his twins...

No heartbeat!

And £2,008 wasn't really a unexpected offer...£2,007 last year!

Not a good start but Frank had a similar opener this time last year and won £36,126...

I wonder if the banker has his 2008 times table ready for today's show then.

I notice the more defined board graphics are present in the normal shows...

It almost seems as if they have replaced the entire display as the old one looked like it had a lot of dead pixels!

About the montage: A day late? WHO CARES?

And welldone on £200 Glen.

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 18:19
Really really sorry for everyone for this, I don't mean any harm but I had to say all this.

Glen seemed a cool guy and I hoped he'd get the year off to a good start. But, despite it being no fault of his, that was one of the worst episodes I have ever, ever, ever seen. I wanted to crawl up into a ball and die by the end of the episode, it seriously was that bad.

Crying? Check. Crap game? Check. Contestant having a character created for them which will no doubt be mentioned non-stop from now on (Namfon the Black Widow)? Check. Bizarre gimmick that means nothing? Check. It's like someone's written a macabre dark parody of DOND where they've put everything bad about the show in and then shown it on TV.

And it was so, so, so, sooooo sloooooowwwwwww as well, it was seriously like this:

"This...is...a...very...unlucky...game..."
*shot of a devastated contestant for 10 seconds*
"I...can't...remember...the...last...time..."
*long shot of upset looking pilgrims*
"...we...had...a...game...like...this"
*phone rings*
"Your...offer...is...£208"

Etc etc etc.

Then when the montage was built up by Noel I got excited, here we go, the episode can redeem itself. And it consisted of...Kelsie crying? Charlie crying? Ooh there's Psychic Sarah...but they've chosen the clip of her with her head in her hands after the £250k's revealed in her box. It should have been a good, happy montage with memorable moments from the show - when I think of DOND in 2007 I won't immediately remember that fantastic moment where Poet Ian starts crying, but that was there as well. I worked for hours and hours making my Season 2 montage for youtube, I had to dig through piles of tapes and DVDs, and not only do Endemol delete it from the site but they say "Here's how to make a PROPER montage" and show that. It got a bit better halfway through, but I still wouldn't consider a slow-motion shot of Daniel dancing a highlight of the year.

When is Clive going to play?

Great, first show I see all the way through in ages and it's a crash & burn! It reminded me a bit of the first show I saw all the way through, Sarah in September 2006 who won £50! I think the fourth offer only being £2,008 was the breaking point, I thought that was a bit low considering £20,000 and £100,000 were both still in play! I got the impression Glen probably would've no dealt then anyway though.

The banker doubling the offer at the end was nice I suppose, and I think it won't take long for Glen to get over the whole thing - he's probably up to his neck in nappies right now!

So well done my fellow radio man! Cool montage at the end too!

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 19:04
Not the best start to the year...pity!

I totally agree with Billy, it's almost as if the mood has been set to a low for the start of the year now, and we need the last big character left on the wings to really come out and shine!

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 19:04
I was screaming at the telly for Glen to take the swap but £2000 was not to be. There wasn't any offer that was really tempting to deal at so he should have no regrets.

Really hope everything is going well for them both and the twins.

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 19:25
Not much of a game was it? One of those 'even Beryl would have had a trainwreck' games, truly horrific luck and the eight-box offer was an absolute joke to the point of making me long for the offers of last January. And that takes a lot of doing.

Was going to start a Dealometer revival today but haven't finished the preparations for my new twists to it. Not much point after a game like that - blessing in disguise!

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 19:53
A disappointing show all round really. First the obligatory sob story (fortunately no tears), then the partner pregnant with twins (usually means deal) followed by a trainwreck of a game in which the offers varied from inflated to derisory.

Glen though was a cheery chap who kept a level head throughout the game and at the end realised it was just not to be today. As he said he is blessed with a lovely partner and twins which is something that no amount of money can buy. Good to see he took his 'misfortune' (if winning £200 can be deemed that) so well and without the usual floods of tears from contestants etc. It makes me laugh the people on here who think the world has ended because he 'only' won £200.

The montage was dreadful and just about summed up what the show has descended into. A contrived nauseous schmalz-fest in which a big cash win is supposed to make contestants personal tragedies better. Ghastly.

What happened to the happy show I used to watch.

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 20:13
The banker is starting to get some momentum here, we really need someone to take him down hard soon or this month could turn into another month full of trainwrecks

I really got this bad feeling someone is going to join the 1p club this month and I just want someone to come out and take the banker for every penny and prove me wrong

Billy, you have every right to be agrieved about Endemol kicking up a stink about YOUR montage, it was much better than the one they put on today.

Copyright sucks and I don't see what's wrong with someone putting up clips of a show they like free of charge.

It's a bit rich of them when they stiff us for live streaming of Big Brother and yet they can't put their hands in their pockets once in a while to pay for music royalties, so instead of joining in with the housemates party we have to dance along to tweeting birds and airplanes

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 20:20
Yeah Billy and Basicasic have summed it up well for me too, Glen was a good guy and it was bad luck but I hope we get decent shows soon and cut down on the 'teary emotion'. the show seems different from what it used to be.

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 20:37
I don't know what the banker was thinking of with that £2,008 offer at 8-box - maybe he was hoping that Glen would follow in Michael and Terry's footsteps and deal it (well actually Terry's wasn't that bad despite the complaints he got on here). He deserved to be punished and instead he wiped out the two remaining good boxes.

Talk about a flat way to start the new year!

Shame, Glen seemed a good guy too - at least it wasn't really painful due to any life-changing offers turned down, and he wasn't emotional about it!

Billy, I think the editing seemed SLOW because there wasn't much to edit, and they needed to pad it out - I mean would any of the offers needed loads of consideration?

And the montage WAS rubbish, I mean why did they have Charlie crying - her games was one of the happiest of the period! And they should have things like Noel getting VENTRESS's box number wrong wtc...but no. And no nicknames of the contestants either, I mean surely they could have had, for instance, Peter "Basil Fawlty" whatever it was....

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 21:37
Well I wouldn't say it was so bad that I felt like crawling up into a ball and dying, as Billy said he felt like doing... but it wasn't a great show. I really liked Glen, I thought he was a very nice guy - just a shame the boxes didn't go his way. The montage at the end wasn't great and seemed to be mainly people crying, and the people who weren't crying were unmemorable. And the choice of music for it was odd too. The doubling the money thing was a little odd and unexpected as well... I hope this hasn't set the trend for 2008...

Posted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 23:15
I didn't think the show was that bad, mainly due to the fact that I thought Glen was a decent player and despite the trainwreck of the game he and his wife at least remained postive and happy.

The little twist at the end with the Banker willing to double the offer was nice for Glen (if had got the £1,000) but surely it goes against the character of the Banker, if he's meant to be mean and nasty then why give his money away needlessly (and not for the first time).

As for the montage, it was alright, but out of all the moments over the past year that's the best they could come up with to celebrate. The montages they have on the interactive DVD are much better.

Only got round to seeing this game tonight, but had already heard the result courtesy of yesterday's game.

Not a good way of starting the year, a game that had no money for Glen in it. I liked the guy, i did, just a shame his game didn't turn out for him.
