Orry's game today.

Noel hopes we can round the week off with another big payout today, in a very brief intro...

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 17:18
Orry has box 18 today. Hello cocker says Orry to Noel :P He is a drag performer and DJ. He tells us about his family and then gets very emotional when telling us how his brother passed away with a brain tumour on Christmas Eve :(

Noel asks him what he thinks the banker makes of him as a risk taker, and Orry replies that he thinks he has given good advice while on the wings...

Here we go...

Sorry, I sound very harsh... but I'm getting a little tired of the crying at the start of each show. We all know bad things happen to people, bad things have happened to myself which I have cried about in the past. So I sympathise. But I don't think we need to see it on DOND. And having had a week and a half of it, we've got another week of it next week. During Christmas - great.

Good Luck Orry sweetheart.

Get your tissues ready now for his family story. HUGS ;) :D

That was a great shocked face from Pat there - certainly one to rival Nude Di in the shocked faces stakes!! :-D

5 - £20,000 Brian

It's Santa :D

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 17:42
Wahey! Top three safety nets and a 75% chance of one-box-to-open makes this just about the least risky high-stakes situation in DoND history.

There'd be no 'just about' if he'd pulled off the all-blue there!!

With the top amount being more realistic, there's a great chance of Orry playing through this easy round and winning some hefty money!

I'd say it's more pertinent that even taking out £100k will ensure a chance to bail out with at least £20k so the risk is pretty nominal even if you're cautious...

If this is £5, it's identical to a situation that happened in the US scaled down a bit, they had $10/$750k/$1m... the offer was just over $500k and was turned down... I'd expect £50k on £1/£75k/£100k if the Banker's sensible...

I'd have taken that one in fear of a joke offer at two-box if either red went. Don't blame him for turning it down though, what with there being a (surely...) guaranteed two-box get-out of decent money at least and a two-in-three shot at much more if you take the box!

PANTS!!!

He has £1,000 though, so it's £1,001 :D

But what a defeat to the Banker; he'll be gloating now! :(

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 17:55
Strictly speaking, as Naked Chef pointed out, not a blue win...

...but that is still easily the biggest collapse in DoND history.

You know, with three to open he might not have pulled that off... especially as if the Banker had looked in the box and seen he had £100k he'd probably have made a massively generous offer at the end?

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 17:57
I've never heard the audience groan so loud in a long time - oh that was horrible. And to make it even worse, he had the £100,000 all the time! :(

Orry wanders around the studio thanking everyone for supporting him and starts putting mugs and various props in his pockets

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:00
It sounded like new music as the suspense grew at the end which made me think it was going to be a happy conclusion. As it got nearer the end Sasha told me the 100K was in Box 7 and begged him not to swap, I was hoping she was wrong. :( Very brave though, and Orry is a great character. I hate it when the 100K is swapped away, you can't help being reminded of Barbera's game. I hope the £1,000 was some consolation for you Orry.

I noticed that the "tension" music when the box was being swapped and opened seemed to play for so long that there were some extra bits at the end - certainly added to the tension.

Well what a game that was. I didn't like all the blubbing that was going on really, but my God, it certainly provided a tense game. I think that's one of the most tense, exciting and intriguing games I've ever watched - certainly the best for those three elements in recent times. As for his gameplay? Well it was justifiable. I'd have been out at the 4-box offer probably, but he can't be blamed for carrying on as he thought it was his big day. And I thought he was going to get the £100k at the end.

He now overtakes Swappy Barbara for the worst ever swap - and he's the first £1 winner in season 3, the last one being Frazer in July, I believe. What he did at the end where he stole those DOND mugs whilst pretending to make a speech was pure genius - I like that a lot and that's probably the thing he's done on the show that I've enjoyed the most.

An interesting show.

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:02
Aw, I really wanted him to get the £100,000.

Two devastating swaps in row for W2! :(

Very bad luck Orry, hope you and your family have a merry Christmas.

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:02
That was a completely unsatisfactory ending for such a great character, and so cruel that he swapped away such a huge amount for such a small amount. Thank goodness he got the £1,000 in Eamonn. I'm so sorry it wasn't more Orry, but at least you have £1,001 from DOND and your family to celebrate Xmas with.

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:03
What a man he clearly saw the game how I saw it and went for it but the cardinal sin of swapping does it again :(.
When he said "Swap" I did shout out NO NO NO NO and clinched my teeth and was hoping I was wrong, but when the £1 was revealed I felt really deflated for the poor man.

That was very sad :( at least he has a 1K consolation and he can just think he never had the money since he never took it.

can someone confirm is that the biggest swap disaster the show has had? I belive it is since Swappy Barbaras gave away 99K.

I guess technically his is not since he got the 1K from the turkey and the extra £1, but really it is.

I so sad it happened to Orry :(.
Thankyou for playing the game with amazing courage and realising the potential full gain of the board.

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:04
that was a sad one was really with him for the swap but not to be,GUTTED

Unfortunately it is.

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:08
Brave or Greedy?

Eitherway, Orry gave us a rollercoaser ride! Lucky he got the £1000 aswell.

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:09
Well what a show that was, Orry was always going to be a memorable character even if like Bunney and Marcus before him he wasn't to everyone's taste - and he gave us a game to match. Great courage in turning down those offers, and at least his swap was planned for a reason rather than spur of the moment like Barbara's.

Even if you take the Santa box into account it still makes it the worst ever swap (£101,000 for £1,001 in effect, so losing £99,999 however you look at it). But well done Orry for giving us such a great game, just a shame it couldn't have been a £100,000 win for Christmas, that really would have been something!

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:10
He was not greedy at all he was trying to grab his big moment and get the most out the game and recognised his potential gain from his board.
Nothing wrong with that!

Posted: Fri Dec 21, 2007 18:14
I don't think he was greedy either - I would have done exactly the same but without the swap - and we know why he swapped.

It's not greed that drives you in DOND, it's making the most of this opportunity. As everyone says, you are only in the chair once.

When you are in the chair it's not real money, it's an opportunity to succeed and that's why we all take insane risks that we wouldn't take in normal life. If you had asked me to gamble 26k on anything I would of course say no, but I did in the chair...

He...he gave it away. He gave it away, he gave it away and he...he just gave it away. But it's fine, it's fine...every time he's had the...he's had blue, he's had blue, he's had blue. Box 7 as well was in his mind, in his mind, in his mind...his fingers were...he gave it away. And all his kids...his kids...but it's fine...

Difference is I felt sorry for Orry but Barbara not at all I was never keen on her and she swapped for a stupid reason.

If you had blue blue blue blue blue then don't you think it was time for a RED? :-D

I'd just like to say that Hayley's a genius...with what she'd said about Friday's game being amazing, I thought "Oh, a big win then, that's taken the excitement out a bit" so I just spent the entire game thinking that he was going to win a huge power 5 sum. At the end, after he'd swapped and the tension music playing (never heard it like that before!) I was so convinced I'd already had the vision of £100,000 being revealed in my mind, and Orry celebrating and everyone being happy...but then the pound was revealed and it absolutely totally shocked me!

It was exactly like Swappy Barbara's, another game which just seemed destined for a big win and then like Orry she swapped £100k away right at the end, it too really stunning me. I was thinking how predictable DOND had got but after today I've changed my mind, it still has the power to surprise.

So a fairly Orryble end result, but the shock of it means my faith in the show is being restored, and his eBay Speech was hilarious, my favourite Orry moment ever I'd say! Bad luck Orry but at least you got the £1,000 Turkey bonus, and let's hope we end Scrooge and Santa tomorrow with the very very very long awaited big OPW!

That was so sad, but what an ending, makes us remember why we got to love this game in the first place. I have to say upfront that I didn't like Orry when he first appeared, just another OTT camp guy in my eyes ( I say that as a gay man myself incidentally) but I warmed to him more as Miss Orry, and he was cool in his costume as well.

There are a lot of people, especially in the entertainment world, who will come into their own when they put on "The Mask" and Orry seemed to be one of them. The touch at the end stealing the mugs was priceless!! Well done mate, you took it on the chin, though I agree the blubbing is annoying.

Shame you didn't do better out if it.

But if Orry had taken the three box offer he really would have had a cheque for £42,000, not £1,001!!!

I don't understand how you can treat the offers as not real money.

Oh wait, I can. The host.

Have you ever thought for a moment he really belived there was more than 42K in the game? Maybe it was not enough for what he wanted.

Felt really sorry for Orry, he came across as a really nice genuine guy.

Don't think he was being greedy either, he came to play the game and that's the only way another £250k is likely to be won.

That would be the correct reason to turn down the three-box offer. Heck, I'd have done it too if I had any reason to expect more generosity at two-box with £1 and anything else.

I was referring not to this game in particular, but to the 'play the game by rejecting all offers' oversimplified philosophy in general, and mentioned Orry specifically mostly to simply illustrate that 'it was real money'.

That is, quite simply, the most heartbreaking game I've ever seen. I feel absolutely sick.

I really wasn't sure what I'd make of Orry once he got in the chair, but he was an absolute bundle of laughs and not annoying at all like I'd feared he'd be, and was starting to think it was going to be a rare big character and huge win marriage, but sadly not to be. He had the same final three as Lance too - and I was willing him to leave the newbie too, as many people have done lately and the newbie's had a big number.

I think the decision to swap was as brave as the one to no-deal 25k - if I really believed the big money was in the other box, I'd deal as I absolutely hate the swap with a passion.

I would never swap in that situation becuase if I lost I feel like I'd have lost £99,999 whereas if I didn't and woin the lower amount, I'd feel I'd just lost the difference between the offer and the box (£24,999). But I think Orry would have regretted it more he he not swapped and the big money been in Box 7, he clearly had his heart set on that box!

But what an exciting game, just the wrong result - I knew one of these days someone was going to turn down something life-changing and win a blue, I just thought it would be a poor offer on 250k/blue, not that!

Well done Orry on such bravery!

And I remember saying on Tina's game in halloween week, how horrible her hypo swap would have been if she hadn;t dealt, and was so pleased she avoided it - well it's happened now, only worse!

And I wasn't sure Tina really wanted the other box she hypo-swapped for (11), part of me thinks she was annoyed at not leaving the Doug finish if she'd picked the other box and had the 100k, so she swapped so she could get a good result if she had the 100k all along, and if not then she avoided the highest red on the wings!

Whereas Orry was committed to Box 7 from very early on - and that tactic did work to a tee with 15k James when he was so confident about taking Jean's box when it was the only decent red left, so you can't fault Orry's tactics - it's got just as much chance of coming off as any other - just not on this day.

If he'd had Box 7 all along, or indeed any other one with a blue, it could have been just another typical trainwreck... but no, he had to be assigned the £100,000 box from the start for extra pain!

Well, that was quite simply heartbreaking. I wasn't too sure about Orry on the wings, like many others, and was honestly dreading his game to a certain extent, then came the emotional story at the beginning and I thought the Christmas nomination week had started early! but the more the game went on the more I warmed to him... he came across as a lovely, genuine nice guy.

The no-dealing was brave but probably something I would've done too after revealing the Santa and I'd have been disappointed with the final £25K offer but I wouldn't have swapped, the new/different music playing at the end made me think he had won the £100,000 and I was expecting massive cheers and tears of joy. I was stunned into silence when Noel revealed £1, as was the dream factory and for the first time in a long time a game of Dond bought a lump to my throat and a tear to the eye.

The only saving grace was the £1,000 he'd pulled from Eamonn  and the "stealing" of the mugs was genius and my favourite Orry moment as it provided a much needed laugh. :-D

And on another note: if that is what it takes for my mate Billy to carry on watching the show then it's fine by me!! Don't leave us Billy!

Right, I'm off to check out Ebay! ;)

Poor Orry. I was gutted for him. But I would've gone for the £40+K offer. He mentioned it wasn't right to be greedy, but the way the boxes were going did encourage him to carry on.

What a showman at the end though! That was a nice way to accept that the Banker had won. I wonder if they did let him keep the mugs

He did end up with £1,001 at the end of the day though, which is more than a few walk away with.

I would've won 100k today. Orry was a great character and I was so gutted for him. :( I hope we have a great game tomorrow.

I liked Orry, he brought a bit of humour to the wings and came across as a very nice person. Good on him for making the most of his time there. He deserved more!!!!

WOW! I am really really shocked. I actually thought he was going to win the £100,000 after hearing we were going to have two amazing games (which it was but in a bad way) and then when the music cue continued to play for so long with some different pieces i've never heard before I was thinking it was definitely going to be the £100,000 in his box. I was so shocked when Noel revealed a £1 I just couldn't believe it and still can't.

I have liked Orry on the wings though he did get a bit emotional on quite a few occasions, I suppose he's just an emotional type of guy.

Bad luck Orry on that devestating end. But one thing for sure is that this episode will go down as a true classic.

And I checked eBay and there's only some dodgy looking DOND mugs there :)

I was begging him not to swap - I've always said I would never swap my box, I would always keep what I came to the table with.

Great dramatic game though.

Billy, i'm really pleased that you were shocked!! i didn't want to say too much obviously but just knew you would enjoy yesterday and todays games!! keep watching cos you can't miss mine either!!

Poor Orry he's a great guy, but the worse thing on the day that made me cry was the fact that he made clive cry, i could only see clive clearly from where i stand, but that was heart breaking.

Orry is fine tho and in good spirits! he'll be a star and i don't think its the last we're going to see of him!!

Another show I missed today (last minute Christmas shopping but luckily Kestrel posted the video today).

I think today's show gives us an idea about how we'd feel in any of next week's games go wrong. I can't really criticise Orry today - we've had enough people have gut feelings and the like about box values that have been proved right - however sometimes they're not and today was one of those days.

I'm glad he got the £1,000 at least today.

I too noticed the tension music getting to the maximum, and for some reason, I like it when it goes all the way up to the maximum, as it adds to the drama. I noticed it also went to the maximum in 100k Maria's game, so I was expecting it to be 100k today, but sadly, it wasn't to be.

Actually there was a added effect to it today though that was not there in 100K Marias game.
Its probably a new addition like the extra dum dum heart beat in the tension music when Mario was picking his boxes after ND at 5 box with 250K in play.

Really liked Orry on the wings, and was hoping for the big payout at the end. (Sigh) If ever I've felt like giving a male player a great big hug it was in that game. Happy Christmas Orry, you're a star anyway!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Don't I ALWAYS say, never, never, NEVER swap the box. And 20 times out of 10 I'm right.
In terms of offers, all apart from 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 were a bit...high. And more what you might call 'out of the blue' than in most other games.
But it's not the offers that matter it's having the 'courage' to reject them and win big, big money. Which Orry would have done had he not swapped.

Anyways welldone Orry on £1

Except the 32 times it's had the 250k, or when it has one of the other power 5 amounts (regularly).

Oh
My
God...

That was the most emotional game of DoND ever... it almost set me off at that last bit.

The pulse music got to the furthest ever since Aileen's and make me realise my remake is totally wrong with the beat count toward the end... must edit!!

After seeing into the incidentals, this type of music with the raised beat and extra tension sound, It has been played on at least 3 occasions, but it is very rare.

Try '5 times out of 10'. Maybe 6, as I think a slight majority of swaps have gone wrong.

But try telling that to Maria, or James who played right after... or any of the people who didn't swap and were wrong not to...

Daniel is acting a muppet he should not laugh at what happened it was not funny at all, I am totally against swapping but I was hoping for Orrys sake I was wrong :(.

I like to be proved wrong the odd time Ie 100k Maria and 50K Jon but it cannot be denied MOST of the time the swap is a bad move.

And IMO swapping and losing the consequences hurt much more, Morris obviously needed to swap to win the big one but lets be honest could you really bring yourself to risk giving the TOP prize away?

I think if you open your box and its not there yer you'll be dissapointed but you'll just take it on the chin especially if you have a consolation fall back (Ie Morris 20k) I don't count Kirsty because lets be honest 75K she was in a win win really.

But Imagine if Morris had had a sudden urge to swap and then had carried it away or anyone for that matter - it would drive you mad YOU HAD IT for 50 mins infront of you and you handed it away I think that would hurt you far worse than just opening your box and it not being revealed.

What I said was although its bad I think most of them see the bit of humor in it - no other show in the world can you win 1p.

Actually I've just thought, that's only the fourth time that 100k has been gambled for at the end, and the only one NOT to swap was Gaz!

Also it was the first time it was gambled for with a blue in the other box (Gaz and Maria had five-figure back-ups and Barbara had £1,000 and a terrible offer!).

But I thought the fact that he could still joke about it by trying to steal the mugs and stuff was brilliant - he coped with it a lot better than i would - I'd have been in a stunned silence probably,I doubt I could have said a word!

Posted: Sat Dec 22, 2007 16:13
I was thinking that as well - quite a few people have dealt poor offers at the final 2 with the 100K in the box. Paul, Tina, Maggie, possibly others.

It would have been sensational on a Lynne type scale if he hadn't swapped though!

I just watched Orry's Game on E4 and what can I say except that that It was the single most entertaining, emotional and nail biting game of Deal that I have ever seen.
Orry came across as a wonderful Guy, caring, funny and a true showman and after the dissapointment of the end Box opening for him to just do what he did with the Mug's was just pure genius. Channel 4 must be very pleased with the Show and I'm sure that will be one of the most requested Shows to be repeated time and time again. Channel 4 get this Kid In a meeting In the New Year as I myself and I'm sure many more would like to see Orry on TV a lot more. Who else can appeal to all ages like him and come across as a funny, caring and compassionate lad and make a grown man cry
Well done Orry your Family must be so proud of you and you are a winner and lets hope we all see a lot more of your talents in the coming year,
Much respect to you your a Bloody LEGEND 8)

I totally agree with you joshieboy that Lad has got a gift, to make people laugh out loud and also show his vunrable side and have everybody a 100 percent behind him when they don't even know him, well that says it all really. I have never heard so many people talking about a game like this, in work on Saturday the place was buzzing with Deal or no Deal and did you see that lad last night :D
This Guy SHOULD be on TV, my husband and Dad both the straightest Blokes you could meet were both crying and said that Lad's got balls and they loved him
Deal or no Deal Is made by the same people as Big Brother and Dermot isn't doing BBLB this year and Russel isn't doing Big Brothers Big Mouth so who better than Orry & his alter ego Miss Orry to present the both of them!!! :-D
Now that I would be glued to
Whatever you do Orry you will be a roaring success as you are a unique Guy and that came across In your Show
Move aside Paul O'Grady and Graham Norton theres a new Guy In Town
Jo ;)
