Greetings friends, and welcome to what will probably be the last of these classic re-commentaries for now at least.

We join the DoND story in the early weeks of Season 6, which had been difficult to say the least, with a run of very average to middling wins. Finally, we got a game that was both a Power 5 win and an OPW, and it barely got any acknowledgement whatsoever. So undeserved, so lets give it some now, ten years later...

Noel welcomes us to the show, and says he hopes whoever is playing today has advanced amnesia and has forgotten Therese's unlucky game the previous day, a game notable for a cameo from our friend MisterAl!

Playing today is... MARSHALL!

Marshall Eglon ("What a great name, that is, eh?!" "Flattery'll get you nowhere!"), from Consett in County Durham, a retired long distance lorry driver. Married to Audrey, with numerous children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, of whom he has various photos of.

He confirms he chose Box 5 at random, and off we go...

Box 18 with 1p Anji - £500

Box 22 with Gina - £10,000

Box 4 with 'Foxy' Angela - 50p

Box 16 with Annie - £20,000

A few groans for that.

Box 11 with 'Noel's boyfriend' Steve - 1p :D

Darren and Marley collapse into each other's arms laughing as Steve grins sheepishly! After a protracted draw-out, he and Marshall do the 1p kiss!

The Banker says Marshall is a smooth operator!

BANKER'S OFFER

£9,750

Naturally, it's a NO DEAL. Though Noel has to ask the question twice as he jumps the gun first time!

Box 12 with Darren - £50,000 :?

Groans, followed by encouraging applause.

Box 3 with Lilly - £100

And it's time for a break. A break I can't skip because this recording I'm using won't let me fast forward! So time for some retro adverts!

Very old adverts for MoneySupermarket (with Omid Djalili) and Trivago, and a very weird trailer for some show with Heston Blumenthal.

Finally, we're back, and Noel reminds us that Marshall is taking any opportunity he can to kiss ladies!

Next up is Faye, the newbie, who is a vegetarian, and likes fruit, bananas especially! Much laughter ensues!

Box 20 with Faye - £250

The Banker says he has plenty of fruit, including a banana with Faye's name on it! By the time she gets there, it might say "Faye, I'm really pleased to see you!"

Back to serious business, he thinks Marshall has his eye on the £250,000; Marshall concurs, saying he's after the confetti!

BANKER'S OFFER

£12,500

"Very, very good second offer." But a quick NO DEAL.

Box 2 with Marley - £1,000

Noel says, as long as we keep the £250,000 in the game, the offers will soar. Marshall says he doesn't need the money himself, so he's giving all his winnings to his children for their families.

Box 8 with Debs - £1

Box 15 with Martin - £50

And another celebratory hug from Darren and Marley! Marshall picks another box, but Noel reels him in!

Noel says Marshall is very focused on the money, but not on the game. The Banker sends through his banana for Faye with her name on it, and it also has the names of every other female winger (and Steve!) on it crossed out!

He says he has no alternative, but to offer...

BANKER'S OFFER

£18,500

And it's another quick NO DEAL.

Thankfully, the final part is on YouTube, so I can switch to that for the rest of the show. Not as good quality, but at least I can rewind now, and keep an eye on the screen.

We're back for that final part. Noel reminds us that Marshall has one very focussed ambition: to ensure that his eleven descendants have a better life.

"This is an extraordinary game, bordering on sensational. One box, and then you could get a very testing offer."

Box 7 with Hetty - £100,000 :?

Big groans for that one, but not from Marshall. "The big one's still there. That's the only one I've come for!"

The Banker doesn't believe him. He says if Marshall really wants the really big money, he's going to make it very tough for him.

BANKER'S OFFER

£21,000

"Wow, fascinating."

"If you continue to have good fortune, the next offer really is going to be sensational, and we'll find out if you really are bluffing." Marshall says he's never been a gambler before, but he is now!

Box 21 with Kiran - £35,000 :?

Everyone remains upbeat. "If that is the height of the damage, it's fine." "Yes, what will be will be."

Box 10 with £100k Christopher - £10

"It's the first time for a while that the £250,000's been sitting there this late into the game."

Box 13 with the other Chris - £5

Huge applause. Fadi joins Darren and Marley in their celebration!

"We are slowly approaching our fifth birthday, Marshall. So far the £250,000 has been won by two young ladies in their twenties, coincidentally both from South Wales. Nobody else has done it."

"He really has to stop you now!"

The Banker says Marshall can be as determined as he wants, but Deal is a game of luck, and he doesn't believe luck is with him.

"You were considering £21,000." "I wasn't." Everyone bursts out laughing!

"You may want the very big one, but you can still do a lot for the great-grandchildren, the grandchildren, your children and your wife..."

BANKER'S OFFER

£36,500

Huge gasps and applause, but Marshall doesn't react at all.

"There's only that 10p to shift now."

Darren pipes up, and says he'd love to see Marshall win the jackpot, but urges him to seriously consider the offer. Anji says Marshall's wife Audrey, if she was here, would advise him to deal. Lilly thinks he should go for it!

The Banker calls, and apologises. He was expecting Marshall to give the game away when offered £36,500, but he didn't, and he now concedes that he isn't bluffing. He says Marshall should focus on Anji's advise that Audrey would be dealing here.

"He's taking Anji's sentiments and trying to break into your heart with them."

Marshall goes back to Darren for more advice; he says there's a good chance he'd go for it. Marshall says he's has Box 19 four times on the wings, and the box is standing out to him. Alex says the biggest winners are the biggest gamblers. "If you get to the other side and the £250,000's there, the gamble was worth it. No-one ever got there easy."

Marshall is ready for the question.

"£36,500, Deal or No Deal?"

He pauses for a bit, before...

"DEAL!"

Everyone cheers. He and Noel shake hands, while Darren and Marley embrace again.

Box 19 is staying to the end, so it's just a question of the remaining three in any order.

Box 14 with Jess - £5,000

Applause, but Noel and Marshall tell everyone off for it!

"The middle one in a 5-box configuration proves nothing!" "Can we get on with the game?" "YES!"

Box 9 with Ammarah -...

"This'll tell us what's happening!"

...£75,000 :)

"He's got one chance to prove that he's done the right thing."

Box 17 with Fadi -...

"It HAS to be HERE!"

...£250,000 :D :-D

The studio erupts! Darren and Marley charge out and engulf Marshall in a bear hug!

WOULD'VE BEEN

Noel opens Box 5 and reveals £3,000

Box 19 with Bryan the statsman contains the 10p.

"Whichever way you cut it, if you'd gone on, it'd have been disastrous."

"The long distance truck driver, for so many years, is going home with the most precious load, worth £36,500!" :D :smt023

And that's it for one of the show's most horribly underrated games, as KP once said I think. This really was an absolute cracker: brave but not stupid gambles resulting in a big money win and a massive OPW to boot. It's a massive shame this game is so overshadowed by Alex's and Christopher's even bigger wins later in the month; had this been in September, it would've been game of the month by miles!

Great to see this group of wingers again as well, especially the cuddle brothers! I really liked them, but, going by what others were saying at the time, I'm very much in the minority there. And the banter about Marshall wanting to kiss all the ladies and all that stuff with bananas was reasonably funny too, though, like with Julie's game, I suspect most of it wouldn't make it to screen in this day and age.

Sadly, Marshall and Audrey are no longer with us; a Google search tells us that they passed away within just over a year of each other a few years back. :( RIP Marshall and Audrey, hope you and your descendants made good use of that hard earned and well deserved money! :smt023

And that's it from these classic re-commentaries for a while. It's been fun watching back all these old shows again, and I will likely continue to do it now I've got the Deal bug back again! If I come across any more I think worth a reevaluation, I shall return and do so, and I hope to do so again regularly, either here or over on JOW, at some point in the not too distant future.

So, until we next meet, sayonara! :smt023
