Greetings friends, and welcome to this week's classic re-commentary!

This week, we're revisiting a big money win that, like Chris's from a couple of weeks ago, was unfairly dismissed back in the day, including by me it must be said, and that I feel deserves a fresh appraisal...

Oh yeah, it's a theme week. Used to like these back in the day, not so much in hindsight.

It's the School's Out Summer specials, featuring Noel dressed as a woman(!) and a Grange Hill remix of the theme tune! Oh, and that infernal catapult! Oh, how we hated that thing!

Anyway, today's player is... ALPHONSO!

Stephen 'Alphonso' Stewart is a singer-songwriter from London; he has been a backing singer for several popular acts. He's looking for money to further his career. He has a photo of himself performing, and one of him with his mother, brother and daughters.

He confirms he chose Box 15 at random before the game began, and away we go...

He's keeping one box to the end, but won't say which.

Box 9 with Wayne (the newbie) - £1,000

Box 1 with Berni - £35,000 :?

Gurpal tells a story about how Alphonso carried his suitcase into the hotel as it was too big for him! He says Alphonso dresses 'immaculately good'; the Banker isn't impressed by his bad language, and says Gurpal shall be banaished to the Dunce's Corner if this isn't a Power 5!

Box 22 with Gurpal - £10,000

So, off to the corner he goes!

Box 16 with James - £500

Box 8 with Fred - £10

And that's the first round...

The Banker thinks Alphonso is determined.

BANKER'S OFFER

£10,000

A few 'OOH's great the offer! Alphonso says the Banker knows who he's dealing with.

"NO DEAL" the predictable response, and time for a break...

We're back, and Noel explains what's going on to those who are tuning in for the first time this week! Gurpal is still in the corner, and has been given a mirror so he can follow the game!

Box 13 with Barnaby - £15,000

Box 14 with £4 Paul - £3,000

Box 5 with Jade - £50,000 :?

"You've taken out the centre of the board and very little else." The Banker says this board will go either one way or the other.

BANKER'S OFFER

£10,000 again

"He's got you down as a potential winner."

"That is amazing."

The wingers encourage him to go on, and, as he's not Josh, he does. "NO DEAL"

Box 3 with Rosie - £5,000

"You're running out of reds now."

Box 12 with Keith - £50

"You have not touched the Banker's Power 5."

Noel tells him to call a break. "Come back to my game to see something spectacular" he says...

We're back, and one more to go. "Need to be up there, left hand side."

Box 18 with Rich - £100

"Banker's Power 5 totally intact, but he survived."

"Interesting board, interesting scenario." The Banker says the board is extremely unusual.

BANKER'S OFFER

£12,500

Debbie tells him to consider it, as he could take out the top three 'quite readily', and it's real money. Andrew offers some advice as well, saying the Banker's Power 5 are there to be hit.

"Can't quite believe I'm saying this, 'cause it's real money, but NO DEAL."

Alphonso wants to do something for his family with his winnings, and also further his music career a bit.

Box 4 with Andrew - £5

Big cheers as the lowest Banker's Power 5 goes.

Box 21 with Chris - 10p

"Yes yes yes! This is the turnaround round." Noel says an all-Banker's Power 5 round would be astonishing!

Box 20 with Kirsty - £250

Good enough.

The Banker says that round evened things up. It really will go either one way or another now.

BANKER'S OFFER

£20,000

Gasps, and applause.

Noel reminds us that the infernal catapult will come into play if we go on here, and the Banker could look in the box.

"Never had £20,000, just like that." Paul, Wayne and Candi offer advice; Candi says it's the strongest 8-box board she's seen.

"I've taken a risk before so, I'm ready for the question..."

"That's a really good offer." A big pause. "NO DEAL"

And we go to the final break...

We're back for the penultimate round. Noel reminds us Alphonso wants money to further his career.

Three boxes, then the infernal catapult.

"Every blue we see in this round is worth thousands of pounds."

Box 2 with Debbie - 50p

Huge cheers! Alphonso says he's gonna give himself a heart attack!

Box 11 with Loz - £20,000

Cheers for that. "This box will decide which way this see saw goes."

"If you could just find the penny, this would be one of the strongest 5-boxes..."

Box 17 with Danielle -...

"We're right on the edge of a sensational 5-box."

...1p :D :D :-D :-D

The studio erupts. And off the bike shed for the 1p kiss!

Alphonso is out of breath with shock, and keeps saying he can't believe it.

Time for the catapult. He can have two or four shots. Four, and he gets one in, he gets a holiday and there's no downside. Two, and he gets one in, he gets a holiday and one box at a time, but the Banker gets to see in the box if he misses both.

Noel reminds us that, the last time someone got one box at a time with the Jackpot still there, they won it (Suzanne).

Alphonso takes a practice shot, and misses quite badly. Nonetheless, he's going for the two shots option!

Shot 1: goes well over the top.

Shot 2: is closer, but another miss. :(

"That is the best attempt we've had this week."

The Janitor comes in, and takes the box away; Noel gets everyone to boo him! Noel reminds us that the Banker knowing what's in the box doesn't mean the game is over. The box comes back with the Banker's black seal on it. The Banker says he's a bad man, but he's not a lier: there's a red in the box! So, he wants to do a deal...

BANKER'S OFFER

£60,000

"Oh my gosh!"

Andrew says, if the Banker's being seriously honest, why isn't it £75,000? Candi counters that it could be a bluff to encourage him to go for it. Barnaby says Alphonso should ignore the mind games, and bear in mind what the money could do for him. Keith tells him not to have any regrets about his decision.

"Noel, I'm ready for the question..."

"DEAL!"

"One of the magic moments of the year that. But what did he actually see?"

Box 19 with Sharleen - £1

Low OOHs. "Is it possible he had the nerve to tell the truth? And, by telling the truth, did he get a bargain?"

Box 10 with Candi - £75,000

Cheers for that. "Did the Banker, in looking in your box, see a six figure sum? But, did he then have the nerve, the courage, to get you at 60 when he had seen a massive sum there?"

Box 6 with Becky - £100,000

A very big "OOOOOH!", then mild applause...

"Clearly, if he was telling the truth, you now know he saw the £250,000. But, in order to avoid you testing his honour..."

BANKER'S OFFER
WOULD'VE BEEN

£115,000

"Is it possible the Banker actually saw the £250,000, and had the nerve to tell the truth? Or has he been bluffing us all along?"

"Has he beaten you by having the most steeliest nerve he could imagine?"

Noel opens Box 15, and reveals... £250,000  :(
