If it was me on the show and banker laughed at me like that, I'd yank the phone off Noel and call the banker something unprintable. I'd probably get kicked off the show but I'd be an automatic legend probably. ;-)

Well, you wouldn't have to swear, just ask the banker calmly, "So, you enjoy laughing at people whose friends have died, do you?"

I've had to follow most of this show on here as I was trying to watch it on 4Seven in the kitchen but the reception isn't great in there and there are some channels that are on a low-powered multiplex, and this is clearly one of them :smt019

Interestingly quite a few people on Twitter laid into Carl for turning down the £7,000!! Wonder how many people who take far bigger risks than he did get praised by the same people for "guts" when they bring big money to the table?

You've got to kidding me....

People are morons.

Well I don't have any friends who have died and he'd just say yes to that question anyway knowing how he works. And it wouldn't be half as entertaining. ;-)

Am I right in thinking that's the lowest win since Mark de Sousa's game? Feeling gutted that that had to happen to Carl. The impression I got from his advice on the wings was that he wasn't a big gambler but at the same time, he'd have earnt himself a respectable offer and a good profit on his box had the boxes on the wings been kinder. £7k at 11-box and £1k at 5-box weren't totally out of the question (indeed, someone playing last week may have taken one of them!), but there was no harm in playing on. At least Carl got a few building blocks for his troubles at the end.

I sometimes get the feeling that some people on here take more offence to the Banker laughing down the phone than some of the contestants might do. It's just equivalent to a bit on pantomime - he laughs down the phone, the pilgrims boo him.

If it really offends you that much, use the mute or off buttons on your TV remote.

Carl was a very likeable contestant, and there was a sense (in my mind at least) that he would've 'haggled' - as he put it - a good offer on a strong board, but sadly the boxes didn't fall his way and we didn't get to find out.

He'd given fairly good advice throughout the week I'd been there, so I was looking forward to a good scrap when his name was called. Unlucky, but an interesting character with a positive outlook in the face of adversity, and he took the game in good spirit, which was nice to see.

I know you've been to the studio and I haven't so you know the atmosphere and stuff, but it comes across to me as having a cheap laugh at someone else's misfortune which is something which really gets me going. Like kicking someone when they're down.

You'd probably be best asking any contestant who had a game like today's how they feel when the banker laughs down the phone to them but I'd guess most of them wouldn't be too upset about it (it's probably equivalent to a Big Brother contestant being booed when they got evicted - it probably doesn't worry them that much because it's part of the expected experience of the show)

I haven't seen Carl's game yet but he sounds like the sort of guy who would have taken it in good humour so fine by me in that respect - but he's also done it when the player's been upset and they've broken down (Kelly from Spring 2010 springs to mind immediately but there are others, usually emotional women)! :)

Kelly was the example at the top of my mind - the poor girl had a blue 5-box (not even a salvagable one, top prize was £100) and was visibly distraught at her plans and dreams having ebbed away, and clearly in no mood for humour. The Banker laughing is inappropriate in situations like that.

Playing Devil's advocate - if you can't go on a gameshow without getting emotional when it goes wrong, perhaps DOND isn't the right show to go on.

That was just plain bad luck, Refusing the £7k was a calculated risk but well worth taking the punt, Carl just couldn't get any respite from the boxes,
