Also when the phone rang at the end of the game I expected that the Banker was going to give her that bottle of £200 champagne she wanted, but she didn't give him a chance and he didn't ring back. :?

I thought the same. :ponder: I know the banker's supposed to be unpredictable to ensure every show is different, but I thought Hilde would've been a deserving candidate of an all-or-nothing type twist which he could've made before her box was opened. (Although if he'd done a twist similar to his other ones, then Hilde probably would've ended up winning £0 as she had £1 in her box.)

I've greatly enjoyed Hilde's time on the show, and her interactions with Noel - particularly during her game today - were really funny! She also managed to mix in some thought-provoking points, with all her stories of the tough life she experienced during the war. Hilde's certainly one of the show's most memorable contestants. It's just a shame she didn't win more than £1, but thankfully her attitude meant that she didn't seem too fussed.

And I hope Ken got his champagne from somewhere!

Probably Ken got his £200 bottle of champagne from Noel's own wallet, David. I couldn't say but I bet he'd be the first to say off air that he'd buy, and present to who, in 5 years has been probably the most charismatic character of all time.

But never in all the time I've watched DOND have I seen someone NOT care about the money, yet still keep that positive attitude, bearing also in mind that she is 85 years old. I'm sure also that we all agree that we've seen people break down in tears on winning a low blue, but Hilde shrugged it off as if to say "Que Sera Sera". (Whatever will be will be) Family and health is more paramount than any monetary value.

I would agree totally with that.

Might only be £1, Hilde. But entertainment value, and your philosophy on the wing, and your game... Priceless. I wish there were millions more like her.

Phil.

It really highlights the people who have won a lot, but have still cried when they found out they could've won more...

Ugh, what a week. It kinda was annoying after a while the attitude of "Nah, the money doesn't mean much to me." Mind you, it's a game I'm sure she'd like to forget, but it's interesting how she continually brushed it off as "nah, it's nothing." I think more of Fox & Grapes from Aesop, somehow.

Certainly beats the crying wreck sort.

lol'd at the 1p box. That was just hilarious that she said it right at the wrong moment.

I actually, being the observant sort I am, noticed an editing fail that gave away the next box. At one point while Hilde was walking back to the chair for the offer, £75,000 was removed from the board (it didn't whoosh and fly out, it was just not there). Sure enough, first box next round was the £75K, and then the board really did look like the mistaken iteration from before.

I have seen that happen several times before. I remember when the £100k disappeared off the board without the "whoosh!" sound and sure enough that was the next box.
I'll have to rewatch Hilde's game on 4OD to see that. Never noticed it.

EDIT: Just went to the part you said and the £75k is indeed missing. Go to about 20:24 in Friday's game.

Well Hilde was certainly unique and she's led an interesting life, but by god did she go on...

There were times when i was just thinking 'shut up and get on with the game'. Sorry i know i'm in the minority here but i do wish Hilde had talked a little less.

Still an unlucky game dealt with in a positive way is to be amended

Danielle's game is still a far funnier train wreck for my money

It was probably as full of chat as it was because there was an hour to fill and no serious financial decisions all game...
