Reading through the (excellent as always) commentary I was thinking "Oh no not another stupid end gamble" but on reflection it was good that Daniel did take it - not simply because he picked the right box, but also because it meant there was no repeat of Kath's game at Easter, where she refused a similar end-game gamble several times, only to have Noel make her pick one of the Cheshire Cats "just to see what would have happened" and lo and behold, she'd have picked the right one! If that had happened to Daniel, it would have felt even worse after what had happened the previous day.

A good result for Daniel overall. And while I can see the argument for doing the Santa/Scrooge twist after a player has dealt, it would probably just drag out the proveout (like when the banker rings up during them :smt011 ) and might confuse viewers.

There isn't much point doing the Santa/scrooge in proveout because although there could still be hypothetical offers if the santa is found, the banker seeing the contents of the box after the player has dealt would be pointless.

Why would it be pointless?

I don't see why the Banker couldn't do his usual mind games here.

Let's say they had carried out the twist in this game, and Daniel had indeed found the Scrooge.

The Banker would have had to look inside the box then (play the game as it would have been played, remember ;) ) and of course he would have seen 10p - but, so as to instil worry that Daniel's £10k deal was poor, he could have claimed that he saw £100k.

And if the £100k had stayed to the end along with the 10p, he could have then said that he would have offered the swap - and if Daniel said he would have swapped...

Get my drift?

Aren't these shows contrived enough as it is?
