There have been worse deals, but this one misses out the top 10 ;)

Can't understand why she didn't play to the end when she said she believed in destiny. :ponder:

With the lack of generosity the banker was showing today, a £75k/blue finish would probably have been no more than £15k anyway and who knows how low the £15k/blue finish would have been.

Barbara was unlucky really. It did seem odd she bowed out when she did given her relative bravery on what was only fractionally more 3 boxes earlier but i suppose the board does look much more precarious at 5 box

Something happened at 8-box to spur her on...but when a worse offer came at 5-box, that something didn't appear.

Fair play to the Banker though (and I don't often say that), he read that well and got her unbelievably cheap.

That wasn't an easy game to watch generally though..

Actually, didn't Lee and Matthew (both from autumn 08) deal for less on a similar last 5 (75k/mid-red/3 blues)? Just they both got away with it as they ended up with all-blue last pairs and get forgotten! :)

I can't think what's triggered this period of caution (without wishing to sound like KB it does seem as though the last couple of weeks have been, with three third-round deals too, and other deals like Roopa's), as there hasn't been a spate of blue wins like summer 08 or Battle of the Sexes? The only blue wins I can think of that any of the current 22 would have seen are Gaz, Hazel and Michael, and two of those were even a few hundred rather than small change. Are they a bit lost without Huddy?

That is a very good point. While I'd be happy to risk £5k at a 20% chance of £75k, a 20% chance of £15k, and 60% chance of a blue, if you think the next offer will be as ungenerous as the one you have at the time, it does change your way of thinking. I personally am more open to deals that on the face of it seem poor at 5-box or 2-box, as the chances of outright disaster are so much greater than at 8-box or 11-box! (Except if they've no-dealt a much more generous offer earlier, but that wasn't the case with Barbara!) :)

Well, this is my 1000th post incidentally!

Anyway, that wasn't the most comfortable of games to watch - credit to the banker for spotting the weakness and Barbara's fear of winning a blue (although she can't have seen many, if any, blue winners!). He managed to get her to sell the £75,000 box for the cheapest amount so far, narrowing beating the previous record set by Ken of £5,127.

I think for most players, the banker would've stuck, or edged up slightly from £7,500 even. The doubts had crept in even as early as the 2nd offer for Barbara, where I thought there was the faint possibility she would deal! After that, the banker was in full control.
