I was not expecting that.

Dirk was brilliant, a massive character, that just had bad luck, simple as that. The 11-box offer was decent, but I didn't see a problem at all with him no dealing. At least he was happy to join the 1p club (why did JT say welcome to the club..he didnt win 1p...) and the barge will now have a good joke teller.

Anyway, it's the big 1000 tomorrow. I've been looking forward to it, let's hope it doesn't disappoint.

Great banter today, awful luck in the game. I think the mean at 11 box was just over £36k so with 4 of the power 6 in play, I don't think I'd have dealt at under 50% of the mean.

At least Dirk was the kind of player that wasn't going to show disappointment on screen at joining the 1p club.

Normally i would be gutted at this result but its Dirk, you can't be gutted by the way Dirk has conducted himself throughout his time on the show, and his game was good believe it or not, because he made it good.

He didn't deserve to be the 20th member no, but he was so chearful about it and that made me happier. Well Done Dirk for playing the game and being a memorable DOND character. :smt023

ROLL ON THE 1,000TH!!!! Can't Wait!

At least he took it on the chin and still had fun despite the outcome which in my opinion was great.
At least he is in the famous deal or no deal club for 1p winners. He did say that he would rather have won 1p than £1.

Clearly that was a shocking result for such a popular member of the wings (and the forums), but nice to see at the end he was still able to have a joke with past contestants and not take the game too seriously. It was clear he was there primarily for the experience, and any money on top of that was a bonus. He was certainly one of the more zanier characters to have graced the dream factory, and the banter throughout his stay was often hilarious... and utterly random at times. You could say he was a bit of an enigma, but one we were rather fond of. He will be sorely missed.

I think £17,999 at 11-box was worth considering, but with the 2 50ks it made the board seem deceptively strong. But even at the end I thought he would keep the £35k because I didn't expect a low blue win, and certainly not 1p.

Tomorrow will be interesting to see what extras they might put in, such as clips of past shows or special guests, plus hopefully more banter with the contestant audience - who knows!

On another note, yesterday's teaser can be found on this page if anyone still wants to have a go!

Poor Dirk, great charecter, trainwreck of a result.

The 11 box offer wasn't bad - and looks even better with the benefit of hindsight - but i think especially with the Golden box still in play, the board was too strong to walk away from

Got to love the man's attitude though, he took it better than i think i would have done and the game itself was very entertaining (they should do that dance every day! :-D )

In all truth, I'd much rather see an entertaining character like Dirk win 1p rather than someone not entertaining deal for a few thousand. I don't know if I'm becoming Wakeyist but still. Good to see him take it with such great spirit so it didn't feel despressing at all, even though a different choice for the last box in both rounds 5 and 6 would have seen him get a great offer - I can imagine a lot of people being really broken if that happened.

I do find these boards with a gold amount on them quite difficult to read but what i always try to do is put the gold value closest to a box that's already gone, so I was imagining a board with £75k in its normal place instead of the gold £50k, and no way was £18k a deal at 11-box there, I'd have been looking for old faithful, what with all the power 5 except £100k, and also a couple of lower reds backing them up. And I think the £17,999 would have been about right for 8-box!

So a poor result but a great contestant who will leave a big hole!

It's such a shame Dirk only won 1p. I couldn't believe it!!! He was so close to getting an offer of £10k - it was so painful to see the £35k go in that last box. He handled it really well though and I loved how he was whipping up everyone's energy throughout his show today.

It was fantastic to meet him in Bristol and I think it goes without saying that he was one of my main friends down there, especially when the people I arrived with (Wayne, Mavis, Patricia, etc.) had played their games and gone. I loved watching his box openings when I was standing on the opposite wing, and I loved watching them just as much when I saw them on TV.

It seems I'm a bit of a curse when it comes to the older men I met at DOND. I got on really well with George, Colin and Dirk; and George swapped away 1p to win £250, Colin won 1p and Dirk won 1p! :(

And a few of your past crushes off the show had this obsession with 10p...

Maybe they did do that dance during some of the opening credits in the following shows in homage to Dirk - I've certainly seen weirder dances at that point!

Ok, yesterday's teaser, which stumped a few of you for a while, but collectively you have the right answers! Well done! To confirm (with correct guessers in brackets):

Quote:
1.) The 'carrots' part of the offer will have given you the clue of an Easter show and perhaps Bunney being involved, the answer being Dee (09/04/07) (James1978 got this)
2.) This offer was a comment on appearance, which may have given you 'Supertramp' Jonny (13/12/07) (Brick/ Big Davey). A later offer was Suit + £30,000!
3.) All you had to do here was remember who was the 1st player of 2008 - Glen (1/1/08) (Brick)
4.) This was a weird one - I think the banker was just having a party because of how bad the game was, eventually being the lowest OPW (£2,050.01). Anyway, the answer was Phyl (29/03/08) (James1978)
5.) The giveaway being the .62 referring to the (infamously wrongly quoted) percentage chance of knocking out the top value after 5-box - Ed (16/10/07) (KP)
6.) Obvious. Gimmie. Won't go into that.
7.) The clue is the .39, as most of this player's offers had 39 in them, and he eventually went away with £39, that player being Robin (06/09/07) (James1978)
8.) It's fairly clear this is a Xmas show, but easy to forget which one! Lyn (which was a guess) had 1p replaced by a turkey sandwich (I should know, I was there! :P ), but Jenny (26/12/06) had this specific offer (James1978)
9.) Not much to go on, but this was one of the most catastrophic trainwrecks seen at the time, as Connell (17/07/06) crashed from this amount to 1p, swapping away £10k in the process. The £4.50 addition was money for his wife, if I recall, as the banker had divided the offer between his daughters initially. (James1978)
10.) My, that was a bizarre game, all the numbers being likened to windsocks, pretzels, doughnuts and allsorts, but it was a memorable one, and most of you got Sarah (13/3/06)

If you all did that from memory (which I trust), then I'm moderately impressed. I think that was just the right level of difficulty. They'll be another teaser tomorrow, probably the last one! :(

Great! I would have been really disappointed if I had got any of them wrong (well the ones that hadn't already been guessed anyway!) :D

Nice to see that previous contestants still cry cry cry in the audience when a game goes horribly wrong. The war dance is one of the funniest things I've seen on DOND.

Still there is always Miljoenenjacht,

http://www.rtl.nl/components/shows/milj ... _s4_a1.xml

and the other Dutch version presented by that guy that did the congratulations.

You know what's interesting about all this? It's the first time I've ever seen the audience cheer a 1p win. Usually, when 1p is revealed in someone's box, the audience falls silent, Noel says some stuff, and the credits roll. I found that to be very different, and very good as well. What's even funnier was that Dirk was running around afterwards saying "I'm in the 1p Club!" This is the best reaction I've ever seen by any contestant to a 1p win. Dirk took everything very well, which was great. The war dance is the funniest thing I've seen in years. Every time I watch it on YouTube, I crack up. I find that Dirk was a fantastic contestant, and he brought a great deal of energy and humour to the game. DoND has had many characters over the years (oddly enough, they've also had some low wins), but Dirk is by far one of the funniest.

I can remember they cheered in Sally's game when she won the 1p too, and am sure it's happened in other games too.

I saw Dirk and his wife this morning in Durham, and local people recognise him from his time on DOND.
He's a good bloke, great story, and a shame about that 1p.

Yeah, when the other box is also a low blue a fair few contestants have said they'd rather have the "honour" of joining the 1p club than go away with the other amount!
