That surprises Noel, and Sally tells him that she likes number 7 and would have preferred that box, so Noel says that if you was offered the SWAP you would have gone for it?

The Banker calls back and offers the SWAP and the Banker's Gamble!!

Noel asks

SWAP OR NO SWAP

Sally says

SWAP

Noel now swaps Sally's box 4 for box 7

Who cares what's in the box? Nobody with any board-reading ability would have got there! (Sure, there was the Banker's Gamble, but even that involved risking £5k to gain £5k - which is irrational behaviour for anyone with a standard utility function!)

...oh wait she's going to gamble? What the heck? I know it's not much to lose but come on, it's the mean fercryingoutloud!

I wouldn't risk this, but it wouldn't take much less. I'm not turning down the mean though. And neither's she, good call.

Exactly - I'd probably take 10K because of the generosity but then might well carry on if I felt like winning 5K and I'd still be in play anyway.

Sorry, no sympathy here. Turning down the mean on a significant money gamble is pure irrationality.

That was one of the best box openings ever, just a shame it wasnt the £15,000!

Great game, hope Sally enjoys £5,000!! :-D

I'd have taken the initial 10k, but also deal the Gamble, despite it being the mean. I'd be happy with 5k.

I would have never taken that bankers gamble in a million years personally. I can get even money gambles at the casino and I'm not forced to play it at high stakes like £5k a pop there.

There was a wave of optimism in the audience by that stage which came about by the up and down game. She was always going to go for it and thats why I didn't pipe up. She really wanted to take the punt.

Wish it would have come off for her. Sally and her husband were truly lovely people.

they were really lovely, i missed sal when she went.
i wouldnt have taken the gamble myself, i did wonder at the time whether she felt that she had to cos she mentioned the swap...who knows? obviously 5k was enough for her and her husband to do what they wanted.
a really good game to watch i thought. a lovely lady. :laughing

Dan, you could see by your face when they cut to you that you didnt want her to take the gamble!

No sympathy needed! Not like she was in bits or in tears, she knew well the risk involved and took it with good humour unlike plenty of others recently bemoaning a decent deal when they've potentially missed a bigger box they had no intention of going for! Her attitude was just right.

If you were prepared to win 5k I'd have suggested going on at 5 box anyway but I can understand it. I guess she didn't want to win one of the 2 blues.

... or possibly she hedged her bets on the undeal coming up and she was prepared to win 5K but not a blue.

That would be a dodgy precedent if players started guessing it would happen but I'll trust endemol to use the undeal in moderation.
