It's take it or leave it commodity again, isn't it? The offers are never going to be brilliant again because of the unfortunate combination of the credit crunch and contestants now mostly going on the show to win money rather than play the game...it's a shame

People coming to turn down six offers and make a mockery of the game, and call that 'playing it' with the endorsement of the host, is a 'shame'?

I respect that opinion, but I cannot disagree more with you.

Well the simple question then rests as this: why are the offers STILL struggling, even in the wake of massive mistakes/enforced wins/whatever you want to call it these days?

That's simple.

The players aren't as aggressive as they were two years ago, and lower offers than that period are required to maintain a balanced game in which there are occasional box wins, sporadic early Deals and a most common exit point of five-box, which has been the long-run pattern throughout DoND history.

Well maybe...theyve got no sponser right now, they havnt got much to sell at the moment like DVD games and that and no viewers competition. Basically theyv'e got no massive income coming in to give generous offers. So they are trying to save money by buying the boxes cheap and if they go for it they probably hope they win blues so they dont have to pay out so much!

Lower income means they have to play to cut costs...

...but this game completely disproves that, and so does the £75k game earlier this week! If the aim is indeed to buy the box cheap, sensible offers - with a view to a Deal - would be the way to go as people can be bought out for less than the mean but a No Deal increases their liability to the mean!

Also, encouraging players to No Deal is still going on - they'd save money long-term if they sorted Noel out!

It could be anything I guess...the format of the show may always be the same, give or take tiny twists such as the Banker's Gamble...but the mentality of the show sure has changed significantly in the last twelve months...and I can't see it changing back anytime soon.

I mentioned this some time ago but Channel 4 would like somebody to sponsor the show as well as Countdown for 2009.

Being able to have an offer after opening each box at 5 box was very helpful
to Lauren going all the way today. When I saw the show was due to run an extra 5 minutes
in the listings today I wondered if it was going to be a 100 or 250K win!

Congratulations Lauren on 100K! :D

Well that was a fantastic game I was dreading it but it turned out really well, she recognised the offers were terrible and rightfully brushed them aside and came with the right attitude and no fear, when we got to last 3 i was so so so hoping for the dream finish followed by a No deal to win the ultimate ( I have no doubt she would have no dealt the dream finish final offer as any sane person would), but alas that was not to be, the 13k was offer was ridiculous and she rightfully went on opened her box and won the £100,000 in one of the bravest displays ive seen all year!

More like this please!

I disagree. It's a big win, which is fantastic. Where's your holiday spirit?

Regardless, Box 23 says

and rightfully so. Congrats to Lauren on the great win :) !

Oh, and before I forget, Happy Hanukkah, everyone :D !

An exciting show and the closest we've ever been to a live play dream finish too. Had Lauren just opened the other box then we would have witnessed that dream finish. Some of the offers were disappointing mind - £30,000, £21,000 & £13,000 in particular (ok most). To drop the offer after finding £35,000 I thought was unnecessary, but in the end Lauren got the reward.

The game actually felt quite quick watching it and so I was expecting an interesting end part to the game, and indeed it was. In fact if Lauren actually had the £250,000 in her box then it's quite probable that we may have actually seen our 2nd quarter-millionaire winner.

All in all it's been a good week of shows I feel.

Wow!!!!!How the heck did that happen?

That was a fantastic game especially as i never would have put down Lauren as someone to win so much money. No offence to the girl but she came accross as a little Scatty for want of a better word

Personally i thought the 3 box offer was dealable, especially with the banker's threat that he would severely punish her for finding the £250k so i'm impressed she had the guts to go for it.

Entertaining game too - Lauren was very funny, a great charector.

Think this might just be game of the month

It's the joint closest we've ever been to a live play dream finish. £120k Jennifer had the same final 3, although given that she had the blue in her box, it was never possible. We'll never know what Lauren would have done had she chosen the other box. It seem so long since Kirsty had the £75k/£250k finish and we'd have had a repeat had Lauren no dealt the £160k-ish offer she would have got.

Thankfully, I only missed the first segment of this game...

That was just brilliant. Game of the month, one of the games of the year. I absolutely loved that game!!!! This day has a knack for amazing games, last year with Orry (despite the result).

Lauren was awesome, I've liked her since she started on the wings and in her game, she didn't let me down. Nice bits of entertainment mixed in with one of the most gripping games we've had in a VERY long while.

This week has been the best for a very long time. The games have all been brilliant. If more are like these have been then I will be very pleased.

It's not, mate. I'll remind you that, if memory and my tape recording are right, Kirsty's final three were £75k-£100k-£250k. Surely that's closer than £750-£100k-£250k.

Three-box with the top 2 still in play is about as close as you can get. If anything, Lauren was closer to it than Kirsty was as she had one of the top 2...
