And she gets her £24,000 in the end, another TPW but it's 2-1 to the players in the bottle special now

Desert Island Deal #3 :D

Great twist for the first round, but I was slightly hoping for the irony of the 1p showing up…

A great board, so much so that I was shocked by how much she deliberated over the 8-box offer. Seeing as she was only being guaranteed £12,000 there wasn’t really much to think about at the time IMO. Sadly, it became apparent that she was inevitably going to Deal :(

I predicted £40,000 when the banker phoned at 6-box so I think £45,000 was fairly justifiable. When was the last time that we had an all red 5-box anyway?

At the end of the day, £24,000 was a fairly good sum to leave with – although she was offered £45,000 I can see such a secure board would have led her to go on (consequently winning much less).

I’m hoping for a really big win at some point this week – 1p, £1 and £1,000 have come to the table so far this week so they’ve not had the best of chances really.

The offer she dealt on was very poor really, it should have been about 24k anyway.

So obvious Noel knew where the treasure island was, he emphasised "blue" when he said the colours and of course left it 'til last, to built up the tension, even though Laura said blue first.

I don't think he knew where it was, I bet he just forgot that Laura chose blue first

The offer wasn't poor at all. With two bottles to choose from, it was likely that it would have been doubled, and there was a big risk of knocking out big reds in that round. The fact that she got the all blue round was just incredibly unlucky.

Also, lol at KB dealing at an all red 5 box.

Well, I can't always go to the end, even if it's 5 reds at 5-box

I fully remember saying deal in £71k Ian's game back towards the end of 2008 and others agreed with me

So really, what I posted is no joke!

The offer was only about a quarter of the average, and with predominately high reds left the Banker would normally pitch it at about half the average - look at the next offer if she had carried on, well over half the average and no risks with the bottle nonsense

Before the 8-box phone call, I was thinking I'd want £20k to consider dealing (which was the EV of the offer). Probably worth going on but in Laura's situation, can't blame her for dealing with a 2/3 chance of a very respectable £24k.

I actually thought the 5-box offer would be at least £50k to be honest and when Noel fails to mention the fact that the contestant could have had an extra £21k out of the game, you know it's a feel good ending.

The bottles must be a first in the reveals we've had as it's the only time I can remember where Noel gets to see what's hidden before everyone else and he obviously can't/doesn't want to do fake emotions before the reveal.

Agree with the sentiments that Noel had definitely been told before revealing them which of the bottles the Treasure island is in. You just KNOW if they get to pick two that it will NEVER be in the first one he reveals, and Laura definitely said blue first! But I said that at the 4th birthday game when Roy got 3 candles to pick. :)

That was a great feel-good ending after the horror all-blue 5th round in proveout - while you just wish she'd have picked the rounds the opposite way, the destruction of the board leading up to the doubling of the offer meant it was all-but forgotten by the end, and Laura seemed really sweet too (she came up with some hilarious one-liners while on the wings, for instance sounding like a Blind Date contestant when she was a newbie and mimicking Dennos with "How about that"!!).

And she kept up the excellent record her namesakes have! :)

A fun feelgood game.

I can understand why Laura dealt at 8 box and with two bottles to gamble with she was all but guaranteed doubling her money (plus there were no nasty caveats this time - unlike Carly's game), yes she was unlucky with the proveout but the game could just as easily have crashed in the next round and she made a profit on her box which is the most important thing.

Well, I'm in two minds about that 8-box offer - £24k outright and it might well have been a deal for me, but with the bottles twist and the EV of the offer now £20k, I think it was worth going on. Interestingly, my calculator predicted £24k, a fair evaluation of the board's worth I think (I will explain this next week!).

Glad she didn't leave the power 5 finish, but I did feel she missed an opportunity there with 4 of the top 6 left, barring the disaster round she'd have still had a reasonable get-out at 5-box. Although having said that, I think it was the right decision for her.

To be honest, I thought the £12k offer was pretty dismal. Yeah, there was the chance of two bottles but for the board it was pretty small.

That said, I have no problems with her dealing if the money meant so much. And to see it doubled was brilliant!

KB, you'd deal the 45k at 5-box yet no deal the £35k Harry would have got on Tuesday..hmmm..

A good win for a deserving lass, and a nice change to the fact that those who usually are most deserving don't very often do well. A fine example about cancer and my wife thought so too. Very best wishes to Laura and her family and I hope she has a great life and enjoys the money.

Hear, Hear. Very well said sir.

You've pretty much summed up my feelings there.

My lucky number was involved in Harry's game, I always swap for 7 if it's left to the end

And as for Laura's game, that was possibly the last opportunity to have Season 5's highest winner with £90,000...

£90,000. How? There was no offer of the bottles so it was flat £45k.

But I bet there would be bottles involved if she was still in play
