The Banker says Chris has no idea how much he is regretting not upping the last offer to £15,000. So he's putting the extra £3,000 on this offer instead!

BANKER'S OFFER

£53,000

"£1, £53,000, or our first male quarter millionaire." Chris sinks to his knees; he wants to be the FMQM! His brother asks if he's prepared to go away with £1.

"Chris?" "Mother." Everyone laughs. She tells him to imagine £53,000 in his pocket. Someone says it could be the pound in the box!

He asks for the question; there are gasps, and cries of "take it, take it"! Noel has no idea what Chris will say.

He says...

"DEAL!"

Huge cheers, and Chris and Noel embrace. Down comes Dad, and he gets a hug too. Noel thought Chris was going to go for it.

Noel says, if this is £1, it's one of the most comprehensive spankings in DoND history. "But there was an amazing moment when you said how much you wanted to be the first male quarter millionaire. Should you have just gone for the title? Would that title have been yours, forever?"

Yep, £250,000 was in his box. :(

Groans, followed by applause.

"How close were you to gambling?"

"Whiskers. If Mum and Dad hadn't been here, I might have gone for that."

Box 22 with Bernie completes the game with the £1.

Chris is shattered. He didn't think he'd get on, and he'd recommend it to anyone!

And that's the game! I don't remember whether I saw this in full first time out, but I did feel the tension watching it back this time!

Seriously, this was a great game that didn't get the initial reaction I felt it deserved, solely, it appeared to me at the time, because the final offer wasn't that great for the board; I was surprised how many would have taken the final gamble solely because of that. Of course, after Nong's and, to a lesser degree, Roop's games, and the general softening towards gambles of that much money on £250,000-blue finishes, maybe, but at the time, I was genuinely amazed so many would've been willing to risk £53,000 on a coin-flip solely because it wasn't that great an offer.

Of course, a couple of weeks later, Gurpal took the final gamble on a £5-£250,000 finish, and it went the wrong way. Shame he and Chris couldn't have swapped games. Shame too neither of them got Becky's game that happened in the interim, they'd have probably both won the £250,000 in that. I think we forget, in hindsight, that we were almost as fed up as Noel about there being no male quarter millionaire (if only because of how much he went on about it!), and the fact that Gurpal won Show of the Month despite his gamble failing shows that.

That's all I have for now. Back either on Sunday or next Monday with another classic re-commentary. Until then, sayonara! :smt023
