Box 16 with Danny contains the £10

The banker phones and says he was happy he got tears when Linda opened the £50,000, so Linda wins a holiday! Linda says she wants to give the holiday to Haj, and Noel opens the envelope to reveal he's won a holiday to Ibiza for 2 for a week. :D

The banker phones again and says Linda can get the other holiday, and it's a week for 2 to Kafelonia!

Noel says that's a great way to leave our desert island. :P

Noel explains that the show's having a summer break now, and we get to see a montage of clips from Season 5. :D

Don't forget - NOEL'S HALL OF FAME starts Monday 26th July (tomorrow!) at 4:10pm on Channel 4.

Good montage, could've been a bit longer but I'm sure one of the people on here will do a favour for us ;)

Noel's Hall of Fame is certainly gonna be good, I hope Ramesh, Corrine and Justin are in the line-up along with some old classic games

Both Linda and Haj got the holidays at the end there. I didn't see that one coming.

Anyway, yes not the ideal way to finish the season, but they ensured a feel good ending with the holidays. Even if Linda hadn't given hers to Haj, I'm betting the banker probably would still have given Haj the other one anyway.

If they wanted to engineer a nice feel-good ending, they should have just offered three grand or more at three-box... once again, their preference for gambling leaves them having to cover their tracks when it goes wrong.

A selection of big wins from the box I presume... hopefully a few comedy games too like last year.

A rather unexciting game to end the series. Once the 2 big amounts went before 5-box, even with the offer after each box, we'd have probably have needed to keep both reds to 5 box to get a decent offer.

Thanks for all the commentaries and remarks over the season. We may have all have different philosophies on gameplay but this is a great forum.

Desert Island Deal #6/End of Season 5!

Haj today - another surprise player again then!

Interesting first round twist; I presumed when we were shown the two holidays that we were reverting back to the "pick a friend from the wings" method. Shame the 1p didn't show up though - that would have been a win-win-win situation!

Easily the worst board of the specials, and it soon became apparent that once again a low sum had come to the table - no wonder we've had no memerable shows this week, with the highest amount coming to the table this week being £10,000!

I didn't see the point in the "one-box-at-a-time" twist at all. Obviously there weren't any big values to offer a bottle with an offer, and I can't see them wanting to finish a series with a gamble that could potentially let them leave with nothing, so it was the only way they could think of making use of the bottles - but as we realised the offers weren't going up that dramatically at all, and quite possibly led him to win the £250 (can't work out whether he may have gone on).

Then we come back to the holidays. It was very apparent that they hadn't go rid of enough, so much so the banker felt the need to phone about them between nearly every box! Although very contrived the ending appeared (I defy anyone to have gone "Ta Noel" when given the holiday in the wings after that game) and her getting the second holiday was even more obvious - oh well, at least it gave the series a "Happy Ending" after all.

Anyway, that's it for a bit then now isn't it, and me as I'm off on holiday for a fortnight. At least I've got Noel's HoF to catch up on when I get back - I can guess five that are obvious contenders, depends whether they'll be putting in a few 1p wins if they have to keep it to Season 5 (this clip at the end seem to imply that).

Have a great summer everyone :).

For every game except Keeley's the odds were 17/22 of not winning the holiday. Keeley's odds were 102/231 so I make that about 12.17% of no-one winning a holiday all week.

That was the biggest damp squib of a season-closer ever. Even when the others had bad games, at least Giorgio's was REALLY bad, and William's had all the intrigue about the banker seeing in the box, all of us thinking the banker was playing to lose, only for us all to be stunned when the blue was in his box - that was just a slow boring trainwreck with an obviously quiet and nervous contstant, though he did improve as the game went on!

The odds have been against the players getting big money - 4 blues, the anti-red and only Dai's £10,000 being anything substantial coming to the table, they weren't likely to come from offers with them wanting to force the players into getting near the end in twist games!

And I don't know why they even bothered with the pretence of them trying to force the holiday give-away, but I guess they had to do something the end the season a high note. :)

That's the problem with picking surprise contestants - they are nearly always extremely nervous and quiet for the majority of the game, which doesn't make for great entertainment, especially when the board turns out like Haj's.

It was an alright way to end the series, forced or not!

It's been a long year, well done to everyone and a big thanks for your continued support. As Simon has already said, this place is so successful despite all our contrasting opinions.

Everyone have a great summer, but don't forget to still pop in from tomorrow, we'll have a thread set up specially for the Hall of Fame shows, and I'll be commencing the 2010 Forum Wing Line-Up polls! :)

And so series five ends not with a bang but with a whimper...

It wasn't really Haj's fault, he was just terribly unlucky with the boxes.

I don't have a problem with the one box at a time final round (rounds?) provided i feel the player has earned it, and in that respect Well done for Haj for succeeding in that 1 in 3 chance of winning the right. Shame it didn't work out for him but if he could have just kept the £10k in play..who knows

Like wise no real compliants about the Banker's random act of kindness at the end. I'm sure the producers knew Linda was likely to pass her holiday onto Haj and it was a rather sly way of passing a gift onto him while maintaining the Banker's image but hey, it's the end of term, what's wrong with a little bit of feel good factor?

It's been an odd season, particularly the past few weeks/ months where the luck has been more often than not in the Banker's corner, so let's start season 6 with a clean slate.

And thankyou to everyone who has provided commentarys over the past 11 months, even though I've been lucky enought to catch every show either live, on tape or through 4OD the commentary is still an invaluable reference point.

Yes, it was an ok way to end the season, wasn't expecting it to be Haj today and probably neither was he, as he was a bit on edge, but at least he benefited from the surplus of Holidays left over from the week! :D

I concur that this forum continues to be a great success and I enjoy reading everyone's contributions most days, it's testament to the show that a lot of us have been here for many years now, and most of us will be back again next season no doubt! :D

At least I can give the spreadsheet a rest for a bit now! I'll be putting up a page about my intriguing (really) EV calculator tool sometime in the next week in the stats section, and of course I'll be back for comment in August! Happy Holidays!

As H said at the start of the thread, a big thanks to everyone who visits the site throughout the year. Without all your support and contributions to the site about the show we wouldn't have a site here, so a big thanks to you all.

Hope you all enjoy your summer break, and look forward to seeing you all back for the start of Season 6 :D

There will be a thread set up for 'Noel's Hall of Fame' and show repeats that are being broadcast during the summer break, so everyone can still discuss all the shows that are being aired during the break.

I was a little late to watch this game and I only just started watching DOND recently again after a long break. I must be the only person who thought that Haj was more than slightly encouraged to go on after the £10,000 offer. His words that it was a lot of money suggested to me that he would be happy to walk with that amount of 'real money'. At that very point Noel then pipes up with some words about the bottles (so what?) and we can assume that those running the show were concerned he was going to take the money and run. There seems to be an element of peer pressure, yet everyone appears glum when the big money is revealed.

Obviously the next boxes then killed his game. I was quite angry for him as he didn't come across as a greedy person and would have been happy with £10k rather than be bullied to carry on and then walk away with peanuts.

Does anyone who has actually played the game care to say how much pressure they put on you to no deal until as late as possible in order to make the show? If someone did deal that early would they just not put the show on tv?

Aww man! Just when I decided to read through the last 3 games of the series (the recordings of Dai and Keeley's games failed, and I deleted this one.) I find out I missed a montage! :( Right that's it...
