Hi, I'm new to the site but not new to watching the show. Following on from the thread concerning who will play the following day, I was wondering if anyone has kept a running total of how long each player has been on box-opening duties. I wonder what the record amount of shows is that any player has spent opening boxes before getting their own go at choosing, and equally, the least amount of shows before someone gets on?

I know Garvan only had around 7 shows a while back before he got his chance, and, other than the very first 7 contestants, I doubt anyone has beaten that. I know the guy the other day (was it John M?) had done over 30 shows, which is a long time in waiting. He must have felt 'always the bridesmaid, never the bride' by the end, but took it all with good grace, and got a nice £14k sweetener to round his stint off.

Anyway, if anyone could help me out with this enquiry, I'd be most grateful. No doubt we could then keep a tally and see where each players own show fits in to the bigger scheme of things...

PS My favourite player of the moment is Daz - classic bloke. Hope hes on soon and gets a big win.

Karen holds the record with 33, then John with 31 and Gill with 29.

Of the current bunch, Chris and Helen have been there the longest.

Indeed I am from Guildford (or at least studying there at the moment!) Don't think many DoND players have been from Surrey (apart from the legend that is Vaughan)...

I'm thinking about trying to get on as a contestant over the summer, as long as they're filming then. I'll redress the balance a bit.

It's always interesting to see how long some the contestants have been on the show.

Cracking list there mate I'm very impressed. It will be a point of reference when I'm watching the show from now on (sad, I know!)... Good work.

I have to say Paula at the top of the list has gone under my radar somewhat, she hasn't been the most noticeable contestant (apart from getting the prize from Helen yesterday). Not that thats a bad thing, it means the banker, if hes anything like me, will have less to make a judgement from when it comes to her show.

I agree that being an 'anonomous' player is no bad thing at all.

It still suprises me when the name is announced and my partner and I look at each other and say "Who the hell is that?"

jonny gives todays contestant (russel) as having done 20 shows, but he said he started on friday 13th of January which I make as 30 shows. Anyone agree or was he just too daft to remember when he arrived

Russell may have meant the day he started filming.

I have no idea what Russell was talking about there. His first game was Liz's, broadcast on 25 January 2006, which I think would have been recorded on Wednesday 11 January 2006.

he arrived, and first played on the 13th, (the episode that aired on the 25th jan), which as MisterAl said was Liz's first game, because he replaced Gerry, who played before Liz.

That was a Wednesday, so Russel's 20 shows were

The games that were recorded on Friday 13 January 2006 were definitely those of Mumtaz, Geordie and Vanessa. Russell was already there by then.

Like I said before, I'm pretty sure that Russell's first game (Liz's) would have been recorded on 11 January.

I think what Russell meant by saying Friday 13th was when he "arrived" was that he was born on that day. I seem to recall on an earlier show when Russell was stick box-opening and he had box 13, he told whoever it was in the chair that Friday 13th was the day he was born so that box was lucky for him. If not, he really is as daft as he came across.
