I was just thinking about odds when deciding what to do on this board with the offer being £38k and an extra £2k if the following round was all red. How do I calculate the odds of picking 3 of 5 reds from 8 boxes?

(5/8)*(4/7)*(3/6)= .1786 = 17.86% :smt023

You divide the number of reds left by the number of boxes remaining. So the odds of the first box being a red is 5/8. Then you multiply by the odds of the second box being a red (4/7 in this case) and again for the third box. Therefore:

(5/8) x (4/7) x (3/6) = 60/336 = 5/28 = 1/5.6 or rounded to the nearest whole number, 1 in 6. As a percentage, about 18%.

And as for the £38k offer, I would say DEAL
