Fredrik "Freddie" Ljungberg joined West Ham yesterday after a long nine years at Arsenal.

Reasons for this move largely include Thierry Henry's departure for Barcelona and the 'lack of ambition at Arsenal'.

What gets me though is how much West Ham paid to get him - around £2.5million, rising to £3million depending on appearances and goals. IMO that is VERY cheap for a player who regularly plays for and sometimes captains the Sweden national team. Just because he only made a handful of appearances last season because of injury! he was worth around £8.5million this time last year!

He's only 30 as well!!!

So as long as the injuries have gone for good, what a bargain for West Ham!

He had seemingly lost his way at Arsenal, he has been going off the boil for the past 3 years. He doesn't score anywhere near the amount of goals he once did and he doesn't have the same influence he once did. His pace seems to have deserted him too.

Still, an experienced player who could do well for West Ham if he can stay fit and regain some form. My immediate instinct is that his best years are behind him.

What is it with Wenger and players over 30? As soon as they hit the 3-0 mark they are gone.

Is he right to do that? Pires, Campbell, Vieira and now Ljunberg have all suffered because of it. I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest Vieira and Pires weren't replaced.

Arsenal always had goalscoring wingers - it was part of the reason why they were great. Now, Hleb couldn't score in a brothel and Rosicky hasn't chipped in with enough goals.

Freddie's departure must mean Wenger will sign a winger, surely?

Probably. Here's hoping.

Walcott also plays as winger so that's a start.
