Ok! So, recently I was thinking about the possibility of crossing a popular board game (certainly of my childhood anyway! :P ) with the Classic Deal or No Deal game we know and love - with twisted results!

The board game that seemed to fit the bill quite well is... MONOPOLY! Not least because there are 22 properties contained within the sets (excluding utilities and stations, or railroads as some foreign members might call them! :P )

NOTE: Reverted to 'old monopoly' prices after Pilot game

AIM OF THE GAME:

So, onto the idea of the game! The aim to build up your prize fund by adding houses to property sets throughout the game, You will receive money bonuses at the end of the main game of deal for the houses that still remain built according to the values specified. The twist is that sets will only be gradually revealed when amounts are ELIMINATED from the board with picks! So, losing £100k and £250k early might not be the worst thing overall, as it could enable you to build on, effectively, "Park Lane" and "Mayfair" premium squares. More of which later...

THE DICE:

So, after each round of picks, the player HAS to roll two dice (random.org will determine what is thrown). After the first round, this will happen immediately, in further rounds, the decision as to whether to roll or build first may prove crucial. But for now, the player rolls and the sum of the dice leads to the following scenarios:

2: CHANCE - (optional) The player announces a set they think they will complete/retain after the final roll of the game. If successful, they receive DOUBLE the value for that set. If unsuccessful, they lose £1,000 from their prize fund (and it IS possible to have a negative amount overall at the end of the game, in which case they cannot play Box 23)

3: INCOME TAX - Lose £200 from your bank. This may lead to a negative value.
4: ELECTRIC COMPANY - Let there be light! Button is ACTIVE (No change if already activated)
5: WATER WORKS - Receive £50 for each blue left on the board
6: STATION - Add a station to your portfolio! The more you get, the better your end of game bonus will be:
1= £100 2= £500 3= £1,500 4= £3,000
7: ADVANCE TO GO - Receive £200 to your Bank.
8: COMMUNITY CHEST - Receive £500 to your Bank.
9: BANK ERROR - Doubles current amount in Bank. This is why it *can* be advantageous to hold on to money rather than spend it immediately!
10: AMNUITY MATURES - Receive £100 for each red left on the board.
11: SUPER TAX - Lose £100 from your bank.
12: GO TO JAIL - Lose all money currently in bank. No second roll that round (if applicable).

NOTE: If you owe money, but have insufficient funds in your bank, you will need firstly raise funds from demolishing houses, at £25 a time. If there is still a deficit after that, this will result in a negative amount with the remainder.

EXTRA NOTE: You may choose to roll the dice again before the subsequent round (unless you rolled a 12 for "go to jail" on the first roll)

Phew! :P Right, now we understand how we can acquire money to the bank (and indeed lose it!), now to explain how it is spent!

THE BUILDING:

Each house costs £50, regardless of property, £25 if required to demolish; so you won't get much value out of the "Old Kent Road (1p)/ Whitechapel Road (10p) positions by completing them to hotels, but conversely a lot of value out of hotels on Park Lane/Mayfair positions! (£3,500 for £500 investment, rather than £700 for the same investment on the Brown set... but largely depends what is available as to your choices! ;) )

Money in the bank is only acquired from the side-game - you CANNOT use money from an early deal in the main game, for instance, to fund your building for this part. It's all about getting the balance right between the two gameplay elements in this twisted version!

At the end of the main game, any money left in the bank is added (or subtracted if a negative value) to the main game winnings, plus the value of any stations acquired.

We'll see how it goes in due course! Hopefully people will be brave enough to have a go! :smt023

Here we go! All about finding those middle clusters in this version I'd suggest, releasing the orange/red sets whilst keeping overall board strength! GOOD LUCK! :D

-Box 15-
£500

Just the start we were looking for, 1st of the ORANGE set revealed!

-Box 1-
£250

Superb cluster hitting releases the 2nd orange! Excellent start!

-Box 2-
£3,000

That's good too! Nearly the best round so far in a lot of ways!

-Box 8-
£100,000

Hmm... not great, you either want the £250k to go quickly or stay right to the end now!

-Box 7-
£1

First of all, let's deal with the Banker's offer - an average start, so an average offer...

BANKER'S OFFER

£10,000

DEAL OR NO DEAL?

After each round, you are required to roll two dice to determine how you can proceed with the Monopoly side-game. You are yet to reveal any complete sets, so we're after some money for now, so you can build some houses later! Let's see what random.org rolls for you here...

You rolled 2 dice:

6 3

Timestamp: 2015-12-28 16:08:49 UTC

9 is BANK ERROR, but unfortunately you had no money in the bank to double, so on we go!

Oh... LOL

20, 11 AND 9

I though the 9th square was Pentonville Road

Pentonville Road is the 5th main property around the board, so is effectively revealed when the £5 disappears! :smt023

-Box 20-
£75,000

Precarious, and not particularly useful to a set. So not good at all.

-Box 11-
£1,000

Another of the RED set! :D

-Box 9-
£250,000! :smt009

Only saving grace of that being the PURPLE set now fully revealed! If only you could get some money to build on it now! :D

BT!

In terms of the main game, the banker isn't too worried with that hole that has appeared in the bottom-right. But in terms of the side game, he is! :eyes:

BANKER'S OFFER

£5,000

Not much decision but to roll the dice first, with no money in the bank yet to build. We need a better outcome than last time... fingers crossed! :smt023

You rolled 2 dice:

3 2

Timestamp: 2015-12-28 16:22:09 UTC

5 is WATER WORKS - Excellent news as you receive £500 for each blue left on the board! That's £4,000! You can choose to build 8 houses on the PURPLE set with that, or wait until the next roll... where you could double your bank with BANK ERROR, but risk losing it all with GO TO JAIL, or some of it with other penalties... Your call! :eyes: :smt023

OK! Your houses have been built! You only need to build 2 more houses on that set to achieve HOTEL status, and should you retain that until after the final roll of the game, you will get a £35,000 bonus! That's a while off yet though, so...

Next 3 box picks please! :smt023
