It's interesting to note that The Newsroom is creator Aaron Sorkin's swan song. He has stated that he has no further plans for any other TV shows or movies, going forward.
The third season IMO doesn't really do the preceding Series any better. For me, Season 1 > Season 2 > Season 3, though Season 3 does have some great moments. I guess you have to watch it to wrap it all up.
