Several landmark/extraordinary games occurred on this day............

7 years ago today, Richard played the first prime-time game. He somewhat cautiously dealt £6,100 on a 3 blues/£10k/£75k 5 box, missing out on a £26,100 2 box offer and £75,000 in his box. :(

6 years ago today, Rodney was the first person after Sarah's game (where the banker strangely and suddenly stopped with his early 2007 generousity :blueponder ) to attract very generous offers from the banker, to the point of getting offered £25,000 at the 2nd offer. He made several VERY brave No Deals, including declining £35,000 on a 3 blues/£35k/£250k 5 box (and in case you're wondering, even I would Deal that  ). He very sensibly dealt £85,000 on a £750/£250k finish for a OPW as he had £750 in box, producing one of the best games of 2007.

4 years ago today, Amy played (arguably) the luckiest game in the show's history. She played a board that was strong from the start all the way to 5 box, where she was GUARANTEED £15,000 (the exact board was £15k/£20k/£35k/£100k/£250k).  She is the only person in the show's history to accomplish that improbable feat, and because the Banker wasn't used to playing a board like that, he offered a massive £75,000  (Amy didn't even come across as an OHO to the banker); she sensibly dealt this offer. Then, in an astonishing turnaround, she took out the 3 biggest to leave a £15k/£20k finish and only had £20,000 in her box, producing one of the best games of 2007.

This is one of my favorite games! I can still hear Noel's "And please don't worry about the penny" in my head (the 1p was the last box in the fifth round, producing that remarkable 5-box!).

7 years ago today, 2 games were shown, one in daytime and on in prime-time as part of Double Deal Week, making Deal or no Deal history. In the daily game, Louise made the Banker think she was after the £250,000, prompting some generous offer from the Banker. She sensibly dealt £30,000 on a 4 blues/£15k/£35k/£50k/£250k 8 box (a now very rare occasion in which I call an 8 box Deal sensible ;) ) for a Technical Player Win as she missed out on £50,000 on a 2 blues/£15k/£35k/£250k 5 box but only had £15,000 in her box. :smt023 In the prime-time game, Carlton showed that the boxes do not always respect the occasion as he had a rocky game that ended in an all blue finish and and £10 win. :(

6 years ago today, the Banker showed Sam that his return to early 2007 generosity in Rodney's game was just a one off, as he offered her pretty poor offers throughout, eventually only offering her £8,000 on a £750/£35k finish. :x Inspired by Rodney's game and the seemingly unlikelihood that £750 would come to the table 2 day running, she declined the offer and won £750 from her box. :(

5 years ago today, Melissa bravely battled her way to the end, fueled partially by desire to win more than £20,000 so the Banker's stupid prediction that everyone that was in the wings during Richard's game wouldn't win more than £20k would be proven wrong. Faced with a £10/£20k finish, the Banker made a £1 bet that she wouldn't win the £20k so that she would break the barrier if she did win it. Sadly, she only had £10 on her box, sending her home with £9. :(

4 years ago today, Christopher dealt £15,000 at 8 box. However, faced a 3 box of 1p/£750/£250k Chris was told that if he left the scream finish (1p/£250k) he would get the Banker's Gamble. Unfortunately, this was not possible as £750 was in his box though he would have taken the Banker's Gamble if it was offered on the scream finish.

A year ago today, Oli (the stats-man of the wings at the time) played. As with most other statisticians, he attracted some pretty generous offers from the Banker, including a £10,000 offer on a 6 blues/£1k/£5k/£20k/£35k/£250k 11 box. Not wanting to crash to a blue, Oli cautiously dealt this offer. Unfortunately, he had the £250,000 in his box, making him the first person to sell the jackpot through an 11 box Deal. Needless to say, this really upset Mark at the time.

Two years ago today was Poppy's game, which was a pretty unfortunate trainwreck to £750. A rather non-descript game in the light of what was to come the following week (which I hope to review in the next few days; I began to today, then realised I was a few days early!  ).

Two years ago today was Danni's game, which was a good win of £33,500 (albeit through a somewhat inconsistent deal), which is often forgotten amidst the run of good games we had that month.

Yep, despite it being a poor offer for the board (she had an ALL RED 5 box of £1k/£10k/£20k/£75k/£250k after all) and it being the least generous of the game (according to the Fair Deal AND Deal-eye) she dealt this offer for an Outright Player Win that you'd look very stupid yet justified to complain about. She was clearly one of those players who was willing to be brave before 5 box but not after that when big money is at stake regardless of the strength of board. It was very similar to JT's game from April 2006 or, more recently, Johnathan Ross' game.

5 years ago today, Don played. 21 games before then in Richard's game, the Banker made a prediction that no one on the wings would win more than £20,000. However, thanks to the 10% perfect final round Don had, he forced an offer of £21,000 (on a £10k/£35k finish) which he dealt for an OPW. :D The Banker, denied the opportunity to throw the "party" he was planning  if Don won less than £20k, gave every winger, crew member and pilgrim a bottle of champagne. :smt023

4 years ago today, John, who claimed he wasn't a gambler but adventurous (which I also am ;) ), had a very tariff game where he was basically forced to 5 box. He was then offered a very generous £3,500 on a 3 blues/£5k/£15k board. While this would normally be an easy decision for most sensible people, the Banker threw a spanner into the works by promising the exact average should he go on (which he is too cheap to do nowadays :smt019 ). This swayed John the decline the £3,500, but it turned out to be a trap as he then proceeded to take out the 2 reds and crashed to £50. :(

3 years ago today, Anhed took out most of the big money early, to the point of leaving £250,000 to 5 box but was yet to get a 5 figure offer. Faced with the scream 5 box (4 blues/£250k), he VERY cautiously dealt £7,500, the lowest amount (to date) dealt at 5 box with the £250k in play. Thanks to his untimely departure, he missed out on a fairly easy mega-money win as he kept the £250k to 2 box which would have produced an offer of £55,000. As many know, though, he did not have the jackpot in his box but rather a mere £50. :?

2 years ago today, Johnny also faced a very precarious £250k high 5 box, but at least he also had a £5,000 fallback. The banker gradually raised the offer from £8,500 to £12,000, which prompted Johnny to mention his £17,000 target. :smt011 Rather than offering him that outrught, the banker promised that he would offer him that if he opened 1 box and didn't find the £250,000. Johnny fell for the trap and proceeded to knock out the £250k in his next pick and crashed to 50p. :(

Two years ago today was Charlie's game, which was a pretty interesting one.

Faced with an 8-box of the Power 5, and just two blues (including the 1p), he was offered £25,000. He turned it down, but then proceeded to hit three Power 5s in the next round, leaving just £75,000 and £250,000 left. He dealt the resultant £20,000, but had the £75,000 in his box. :( He later revealed that his target was £25,000, but he didn't deal it because he knew the board was worth more. :smt023

If Charlie dealt the £25,000, he would probably be in the HORRIBLE DEALS club. As is he only made a some-what cautious deal. :smt023

5 years ago today, Mavis declined £23,000 at 2-box with £250 & £100,000 remaining. She declined the swap but unfortunately ended up with the £250. :(

7 years ago, Eileen dealt £16,500 at 5-box for a Banker spanking! :D

IIRC Eileen's game was also the game where the box inserts were raised to have a drop shadow effect. Prior to this, the box inserts were flat

And a memorable quote from that game "A quarter of a million pounds to show your knickers!" :-D

Seven years ago was Shirley's game, which despite being very exciting and memorable was barely ever mentioned afterwards. At 5-box she turned down 55k on a board with 50p/10k/50k/75k/250k. She then had a painful round (being just one box away from a 50k/250k finish), and wound up cutting her losses at 20k on a 50p/50k finish... only to have 50k in her box.

Yes, I remember Shirley's game because it came on the first day of my (much publicised) holiday to Spain. I recall being ever so slightly....er, irked  .... by the fact that it was seemingly such a pulsating game, with £55,000 turned down, and it had to come on the day when I couldn't watch it because I was a few thousand miles away. :smt009

I haven't seen that game since, coincidentally, so it remains one of few from that era that I never watched. Or recorded for that matter, which is a shame really.

Last year in Wayne's game, a person in the audience booed at the opening offer of £7,000 which prompted the Banker to increase it to £11,000. At 8-box, Wayne had £250,000, £75,000, £50,000, £3,000 and 4 blues. He was initially offered the governor but after some persuasion, the Banker increased the offer to a very generous £28,250 which Wayne rightfully dealt. He was denied a Banker spanking though as the next offer would've (allegedly) been £42,000 even though £50,000 was taken out. In the final round, Wayne took out the remaining 3 reds and had just £500 in his box! :D

I've just realised, if Wayne had played today instead of yesterday, he'd have been playing on the anniversary of his namesake! :smt023

Two years ago today was Ted's game, which was a very entertaining and emotional game, which resulted in an unfortunate trainwreck win of just £5. :(

Today has always been unlucky for DoND in some way

1 year ago, Li Ping dealt at her highest offer, which was a mere £1,551 (!) and had £5,000 in her box

3 years ago, Laurence had a nightmare game, receiving no offers higher than £1,100 and his final three boxes were 1p/10p/50p  Just to rub things in, Laurence took the 50p out in the last box, leaving him with the 1p/10p nightmare finish and inevitably ended up joining the 1p club :(

4 years ago, Paralympian Emma took a big gamble at 2-box, no-dealing £26,000 on a £50/£75,000 finish....and ended up with £50  :(

5 years ago, Ann had yet another very low money game on this date, she dealt at her highest offer of a mere £1,001 on a 4 blues/£10,000 final 5. On a £50/£10,000 finish, Ann was offered an easy BANKER'S GAMBLE which she declined ( :? ) and a painful game finished on a painful note when it was revealed she could've turned her whole game around and had £10,000 on the table :o

6 years ago was Kathleen's entry into terrible deal fame when she dealt at a stingy £45,000 on a 10p/£20,000/£50,000/£100,000/£250,000 final 5, only for the proveout to go completely against her and leave Kathleen with the dream ending! Kathleen had £100,000

Wow, what an unlucky date for games! 25th of June has yielded 3 games with peak offers of sub-£2,000, a big gamble gone wrong and the 'bad' deal of June 2007!

I think I remember Kathleen's game. I had such high hopes of an offer of at least £50,000, maybe past £60,000 at 5-box, and when it came in at £45,000 I admit I was slightly crestfallen. Even more so, back then, when she dealt it, and even a bit now, because I can still appreciate just what a golden shot this was at "mega money".

£45,000 to me is "mega money" anyway, but still, it could've been better than it already was.

I agree on all accounts. Kathleen's Deal was only slightly cautious given it was a life-changing sum of money and she could have crashed to a £5,000 2 box offer or even 10p if she went on. And what really annoys me is that so many people were furious at her in the commentary and yet everyone praised JT for Dealing £6,000 less on nearly the exact same configuration (just 10p was replaced with £500) because he decimated the board afterwards and managed to spank the banker. :smt011 It was like Jen's Deal earlier this year, and while I was furious at first (because I really wanted her golden board to be used to its full potential), I soon after realized £45,000 is a life-changing sum of money that she didn't want lose as a £3,000 finish and/or a £250 box win was still possible.

A year ago today, Colin dealt a generous offer of £3,000 on a £20k-high 5-box, which proved to be the right call. :smt023

Two years ago today, John dealt £26,000 at 5-box, but could've claimed the elusive title had he gone on. :(
